Now this is bonkers and a completely ridiculous idea, but I plan to put Impreza running gear into my Justy.
Unfortunately rust has got the better of it at the moment. The rear chassis legs around the fuel tank and diff mounts are rotten and I've been quoted £1000+ to have them welded up.
As that's a lot of money to get her back to standard I thought I'd attempt something different. The plans are as follows.
Spaceframe the rear chassis, removing all the rear interior to make way for the battery and fuel tank. This would also be the support for the Impreza drivetrain.
2 bucket seats up front with full racing harnesses.
Custom suspension towers all round for the struts.
Possibly space frame the front end depending on how an EJ20 would fit.
Custom gearbox tunnel inside to accommodate a 5 speed.
Custom propshaft and maybe drive shafts depending on how wide the running gear is.
I want to keep it relatively standard from the outside with a sleeper look, and just have it lowered on Impreza 16's. I hope I don't need arch extensions.
I have only got the car back from the bodyshop tonight after I got it back on its wheels yesterday, so this may take a few months to setup, space, time etc. and a new daily as I don't want to run my Impreza as a daily.
My only issue I've thought of is do I go with ABS or not?? I could try and find an RA or Type R write off so the ecu would already not include ABS.
This is one heck of a project but I'd love to be the only one in the UK with a Justy WRX.
