Hello. My name is Arnor and i'm from Iceland. I have a Subaru Justy 4x4 GL '90. It was ECVT but I swapped that out and put in a 5speed manual transmission. It has worked perfectly in FWD for eight months but I have not had the time to finish the job until now and connect the 4WD system. I've been reading a lot about how this should be done and I think I got it mostly correct. Still it is not working and I was hoping to get some help here. My problem is that when I push the 4WD button the 4WD lights go on in the dash but the car is still 2WD. Basically nothing happens. Is there anyone that can help me to find out what is wrong? What I've finished doing is: 1. Run two wires from the gearknob to the solenoid. 2. Ground the third wire that comes from the switch on the knob. 3. Plug the solenoid with two hot wires(ignition) and two wires coming from the gearknob. 4. Run three valves from the solenoid. Two of them going to the gearbox and one is going to vacuum (I think) I'm pretty sure the wiring are correct but I'm not sure if the valves are correct so there might my problem be. Anybody who can give me some help? I've put some pictures so that you can see how it is. www.flickr.com/photos/64635736@N06/5884091987/in/photostream/www.flickr.com/photos/64635736@N06/5884658440/in/photostream/www.flickr.com/photos/64635736@N06/5884657826/in/photostream/

Is there anyone that can help me to find out what is wrong? The 4wd dash light is triggered by a switch in the gearbox. So if the light is on, then we might assume the wiring/vacuum part is correct and that the gearbox itself is being switched into/out of 4wd(assuming, of course, that your conversion doesn't compromise this arrangement). I'd look into the mechanical side of things; speaking of which, did you replace the rear differential with its standard counterpart?

Thank you for your answer If I understand you correctly than I am sure that the gearbox is 4X4, I can put him in 4WD manually and have driven the car in 4WD after having put him to 4WD that way. I replaced the rear differential when I was replacing the gearbox so I think that is not a problem. Maybe I should try to manually put him to 4WD and check if that works?

I found it out. I was connecting the wires wrong. I used two red wires coming from the body but those two wires lead to the dash. I switched the wires, using green a green wire coming from the body and voliá works perfectly. The two red wires I connected to the gearbox and now the 4WD light only goes on when it goes into 4WD.
Pretty stupid mistake but it works now! ;D
If anyone needs info about transmission swap from ECVT to manual I should be able to help.

Hi, I would start by removing the seat on the right side, passenger front seat. Then you can roll up the carpet and see if the wire connector from the shifter is connected. also to check and see if it is energized.

The wire from the button is lying in the driverside legroom.
