Hello all, this is my '93 Subaru Justy DL, 5 speed, completely stock. I just saved it from some guy that felt "it should get like maybe 30 miles to the gallon or something".. which ensured me he didn't have a clue of what he had.. he said he didnt drive it too much and had only put 5 dollars in within the whole month he had it. apparently he was selling for a buddy that owed him money.. so I obviously swooped. ;D It has 145,420 miles on the odo. but under the hood it has the hook up for being towed behind an rv or whatever.. so i dont know the exact mileage. I just replaced the spark plugs, and wires and i'm pretty sure the wires were oem, (which is good and bad i guess..) and the plugs were in major need of changing.. oil as well.. i have the rest of the tune up on the way (battery, cap, rotor, pcv valve, thermostat, and serpentine belt) all things i guess i have always done to any new (to me) vehicles.. anyways i dont have too many other major plans except maybe paint the wheels black and clean it up with little parts here and there from junk yard, but gonna keep it as stock as possible for best gas mileage. I also had another post about my idle issues.. subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=everything&action=display&thread=2448 I am very excited to be apart of the justy crew. thank you. peace!

Welcome to the Justy crew!!! I see you are here in the Pac-NW so you'll have any easier time getting spares than our brothers abroad. On your long list of things to replace, I didn't see you mention the fuel filter. Add the fuel filter to your list and do it ASAP, like maybe right after the oil change. As far as the serpentine belt goes I have some good news for you; you don't have one! Your Justy DL will have just one little V-groove drive belt for the alternator and that's it. Please keep us posted and bless your heart for leaving it stock, you're a smart man!

thank you for the warm welcome seattlejusty, and i am definatly pumped to be a new owner of a justy here in the nw. thank you for the fuel filter mention as well, i cant believe i forgot it! i ordered one the next day (which ended up being sent from seattle haha) and now it is in there along with the rest of the parts. i just posted on my other post about my idle issues which think i got it figured out, and the fuel filter i think may have helped this, so thanks again. i also made it to the local scrap yard and grabbed some spare parts which included some sweet mud flaps off a 4wd justy that i put on this weekend.. parts next on the list to eventually track down would be a alternator bracket (have homemade one now, works.. but i'd like a real one), and a timing belt cover (lower part where timing marks are on mine is broken)

.. so I obviously swooped. ;D Yes, it's good that a person got it that appreciates it. It has 145,420 miles on the odo. Does your odometer have 6 numerals? Most only have 5, but I saw a '94 once that had 6. i have the rest of the tune up on the way Thank You gonna keep it as stock as possible for best gas mileage. Thank you again. Stock is my favorite, but there are some very cool custom builds people have done...performance can be measured in many ways. I am very excited to be apart of the justy crew. thank you. peace! Welcome, I grew up in Salem (unfortunately) and went to school in Monmouth for a couple years, so you're right in my old stompin' grounds.

I also grew up in Salem.. small world. anyways glad to find yet another nw justy owner! take care my friend.

Ah ha! i believe it is "that" one. on the right! what is the other piece? i may need that as well... This is a bolt with spacer, that is a spare you can have, stacks After seeing this picture, i think my alternator is macgyvered in there in my justy.. I will take a picture and post to show what I'm talking about.. I mean it works how it is, but i defiantly think it is different than the above picture... mine is the only justy i have got to see under the hood of, so it's the only one i know. i think some people will agree that there arent very many justy repair manuals out there.. only one i have found for justys only is off dustysjustys but it's like $110.. i have a "1987-1995 subaru coupes/sedans/wagons" chilton which if you ask me is a pretty broad selection... i couldnt find a picture of under the hood of a justy in the whole thing.. as a matter of fact there are only a handful of sections in the thing that has to do with a justy.

If you need to see any other pics i can get them up too.. How 'bout one with the plug wires under the intake!! stacks Is that the way it is supposed to be? I don't know if i like that as much.. the wires are closer/touching the heat shield that way, and it seems kinda cramped? what is the little plug-wire-clip looking thing on top of the intake for? That is what made me think the wires should go over the intake (and clip into that) thanks again stacks.

I believe my plug wires are under the intake also...but it does seem better to have them away from touching the exhaust manifold. Never noticed the clip gizmo on my intake tube. Looks like your distributor o-ring is leaking judging by the swollen rubber coolant hose and oil on top of trans. Stacks, it's weird to see the engine upside down...thought you were using mirrors(but not any smoke ) at first glance...that lower bolt on the alternator is a PIA to loosen when adjusting belt tension...I take the wheel off and reach through that little hole in the wheel well.

Stacks, it's weird to see the engine upside down...thought you were using mirrors(but not any smoke ) at first glance... A MPFI engine will balance itself upside down. This is the poor man's engine stand when doing crank bearings. what is the little plug-wire-clip looking thing on top of the intake for? That is what made me think the wires should go over the intake (and clip into that) I think it looks better before too, in fact I wondered if I had it wrong all these years? Page 9-3 of the owner's manual confirms it, the clip holds the throttle and ECVT cable. Perhaps your wires are long; my #1 wire measures 17" without boots. stacks Yeah, you are right.. my wires are a little bit long. I was cheap about it and went to the local auto parts store cuz i had a $20 credit, and instead of having them order the right set in, I just used what they had available (i guess my credit wouldn't work for special order items... BS if you ask me) but i figured out a 92-93 suzuki swift wireset would work... so i picked em up for $5.. ha ha not too much of a loss.. so that explains why i have the extra length.. but still when i held them up to my oem wires, they were only about an inch or two longer, I'll be getting the right set when i get around to it, in the meantime i guess the ones i have in now will work... just wont look quite as pretty.. but hey at least i can put them in the throttle cable/ecvt clip! ha ha (and now at least i know what the hell it's really for! thanks stacks!)

Alright, I thought I would do a before and after on my Justy to keep updated on here... So this is when I first got it.. And this is current. One of my favorite parts about it is the sweet aqua colored early '90's stock detailing on the side haha..

This last weekend I was bored so I decided to put some cheap amber fog lights on the Justy.. Looks and function wise I'm pleased with how it turned out..

The foglights look really good and add to the rugged nature of Justys. Very nicely done.
I really like the squiggles in the side of your Justy; they do look very 90's, but that's part of the charm.
Overall, it looks very well loved and you should be proud

I've been "rally inspired" but I'm keeping it as stock as possible because I got it for gas mileage.. I'm glad I'm not the only one that appreciates the 90's aqua on red color scheme.. After I put the fog lights on I asked my fiance what she thought and she said she thought the lights look like they come from the same era the car is from so it looks good. haha.

Also, recently when I went to tighten the alt. belt my macgyvered alt. bracket broke.. Before it broke stacks had seen in previous post that I had said I wanted to get a real stock alt bracket because I didn't like the macgyvered one.. He said he had an extra and sent it to me free of charge along with a couple other little brackets I was missing. I decided to wait for stacks to send me a real alt. bracket rather than repair the macgyvered one.. However when I received the parts, and went to put the stock bracket on I realized that someone had previously snapped a bolt in the hole for the alt. bracket.. Hence the macgyvered bracket! So I had my buddy re-weld my existing macgyvered bracket and reinforce it a bit, then painted it black to make it look a little better. I still plan on trying to tackle that snapped bolt someday, but like I said about the macgyvered bracket before, at least it works for now! (I feel better about the welds and reinforcements now as well) Better than it was. Thanks again for the parts stacks!

If you've any doubts about how long it will hold up then drill out that old bolt, tap new threads and put the correct bracket on as soon as possible. Kudos to Stacks for helping you out like that; just don't let it get so bad that you have to send him your crankshaft: subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=engine&thread=2657&page=1How about a little more information about the fog lights, Drew, are they always on with your low-angled headlights, or how did you wire them? -Danimal
