;D I just got the biggest performance boost I think I've ever seen out of less than $4. As you can see, the stock intake is quite restrictive( the coin is a quarter) So I bought a piece of sheet metal, cut an ~11in circle with tin snips, punched a hole in it and attached it with a nut. it feels way more powerful above 4k rpm. Probably a couple more horses in there now. It sounds cool when you put the throttle down too The sheet metal formed a pretty good seal with the air cleaner. The gasket on the air cleaner is nice and pliable. I kept the old lid so I can use the heat stove in the winter. Next, I wanna cut a hole in the hood and slap on a scoop so I can have a real CAI ;D whatdy'all think?

TEXTI like your $3.50 breath of fresh air. Also like the idea of a hood scoop, if not just for looks. Look what scoops did for the outbacks. Hottest cars on the road.

I hear the plastic vents used for bathroom vents on the roofs of houses, when cut in half , sanded and painted, make acceptable looking hood scoops. I have yet to look at this myself though. I might go this route, because I wouldn't want to put an expensive body mod over a $3.50 sheet metal job

I have just installed a hoodscoop in '88 Justy, I got the scoop out of a 1958 t-bird hood that I found. it looks awesome, and I am sure it will be very functional after I get the car finished. Nice Idea with the intake..definatly a breath of fresh air

on my 88 carburated justy I completely removed the stock intake assembly and replaced it with a cone intake filter sticking straight up through the hood. i did this by using using a 3" long by 3"diameter piece of tube bolted down on top of the carb with the stock wingnut and cross section of metal across the top of the tube. I then cut a hole in the hood big enough for the cone filter to stick straight up through. All I need now is to cover it with a scoop. I'll post pics when I get them.

Here is how I did it back when I did not have the Turbo: The straight pan would leak when you have the screw tight, so I fould an aluminum pan, and used original gasket on top of it.

would it be possible to cut off the metal from around the bottom of the filter so that it takes off all that excess around there?

Great idea! I copied it and love the sound! Definitely more power, i got so carried away that also gutted the front fat cat to keep the cheap power upgrade tradition! jeje ;D ;D Now i want to add the K&N filter too (part E-2630) Cant get the foot out of the gas pedal!
