I really need your guys' help. My justy has developed a sound that is kind of a mix between a rattle and a tapping sound. I only hear it from about 900-1500rpms and from 2200-3500 rpms. I took it to the subaru dealership and they said that it might be the bottom end and that they can't look at it until monday. But I want your guys' opionions because this subaru dealership has tried to rip me off before(told me I needed struts when I replaced them a few months before). Any ideas as to what it might be? I am open to all suggestions I hope I didn't break something in the bottom end.

Try checking all your accesories for loose bolts/hardware. I bought a Geo Metro for $25 because is supposidly had a bad rod or piston. It sounded REALLY bad! After looking it over good, I found that the A/C compressor had come loose and was banging around at certain revs. Sounded like a bad rod bearing. After replacing the missing bolts and tightening it down, the car was nice and quite ;D I sure hope your problem is this simple. Lower end issues can get pretty costly

get a windshield washer fluid bottle and cut the side out of it (make your own drain pan), and drain the oil.
If you see metal shavings and stuff in it, most likely you spun a rod bearing. it is it a rod bearing, you can fix it. the bearings are cheap, and you can do them in the car (if you are good)
If you leave it too long it will get worse and the crank will be trashed

Is the noise there when you start the engine cold, Or is it only there when the engine is warmed up? Is it a wierd gurgle(liquidy)/rattle at idle? When is the last time the valves were adjusted?
Get a mechanics stethascope and investigate further.

Get a mechanics stethascope and investigate further. I isn't there at idle. It makes the noise nomatter whether it is cold or warm. It only does it at those certain rpm ranges. The sound doesn't sound liquidy at all, more of a thin metal to metal rattle(imagine a tin can with a small rock inside it being shaken quickly). Subaru will probably use a mechanics stethascope when they look at it, but if they do, they will have to let me listen too since I don't really trust thier honesty.

Might it just be the chain which connects the balance shaft, oil pump and crank schaft which doesn't have a tensioner (Subaru construction bug )?

Sounds like an exhaust rattle to me. Get under the car and knock the exhaust system in different spots with a solid stick to see if you can make it buzz.
