Guddaye Every one, Arthur here ..... I have a 1994 Subaru Domingo which is a real stunner with Air Con Fully electric Moon roof and blacked out windows . When i bought it there was, hidden in the oriental hand book, a warranty for the gearbox. The transmission is failing after only 16,000 miles .. on a warranted 12,000 The vehicle has done approx 45,000 miles I had only just got the vehicle back after another vehicle dragged its wing along my drivers side as it reversed from a tight manouver whilst mine was in 'park' .. It may have moved the Domingo along with it !! Upshott is advice to me was the brushes maybe worn, or worse, the magnetic /powder clutch needs relacing .. The bill could be £1,800 I've had the brush holder out and the negative brush was worn a whole 1/3 most .. And on measuring the depth to the sliprings and the extention of the negative brush it was obvious that the brush would not make a good contact and the wire leading to it was tight against the top of the brush holder box so the brush even though there was plenty of carbon there could not reach into make good contact .. I replaced this brush but there is still loss of transmission .. One 'ray of light ' being that the sound of a tormented cat has disappeared Hope to hear from anyone on these fantastic vehicles .. regards , Arthur . In England.

OKAAAAAAY .. so .. recently the garage put the vehicle upon a lift for me and dropped the tranny sump again , after i had done out in the holding area, and found , as i had come to suspect, that the filter was blocked up. Cleaned and all replaced and topped up again with fresh ATF the vehicle now sprints around their complex and the awful gasping noise has gone as well ... I owe a lot to this forum and it's postings because i had reached in under when the sump was off the first time and using a digital camera i pictured what i could not see by using the flash and it showed up on the computer at home and of course i could zoom in on details . It was at this time i could see a filter looking assembly so in a way all this work emptying the old ATF and replacing it was wasted BUT it had to be done to see up into the bowels of the transmission .. It was now that advice on this forum came to play as i read of the filter assembly and that sent me back to ask the garage to lift the vehicle .. In a way i'm peeved with them because they were supposed to have serviced the vehicle upon point of sale and again when i returned at 500 miles and again after a year 5000 miles .. regards to those of you who post us your knowledge , Arthur. (*V*) ...
