Hi guys
just bought myself a nice sony CD/MP3 player to go in my pride and joy. I've never fitted a stereo before but I thought I'd give it a go. The one that is in just now is a Clarion cassete/radio. Got any tips? Anyone fitted a sony before?

Hi , I just put a panasonic in my justy. It's nothing special, but is light years better than the factory AM/FM that played only through the left speaker. A few tips: Get the wiring harness adapter(from any electronics store) this will mate with the factory plugs(if they are still there) Maybe there is already one in there if it's not a factory unit. Then you just match up the colored wires. Get some speakers that can handle some power. There are already wires to the rear that come out of the wire bundles in the way-back. They're hooked into the factory plugs that plug into the radio. The place I mounted the rear speakers is in that plastic shelf (with the ropes) that lifts up when you open the hatch. I used a compass, a drill, and a jig saw. You'll probably want to fade out the front dash speakers 70-80% or more or replace them alltogether.

My stereo is completely stock right now.

you got rear speakers in your justy?! mine didnt get any...........you have to wire them in yourself! you have a positive wire, and a negative. get them paired to the wires that are in your stereo manual. they should connect straight up to the black Iso block you just bought from the shop. if your wires dont have the individual connectors on the end you have to buy them and crimp them on. at the other end of the car (assuming you have laid the cables correctly to the back) you have some other connectors that are to clip onto the speakers terminals. yup, clip them on. with new speakers, they need running in just like a new engine, steadily and not rushed. over the hours (depending on what speaker) gradually build up the volume.....but NEVER peak them. you will only need to go buy a new set of speakers..... also, on a safe note, 95% of all car fires are from badly wired car stereos. so if your a bit dizzy, a bit numpty, then get a book... or someone to do it for you that doesnt still do things like pee in electrical sockets "for a giggle". you dont want an accident now do you? make sure your speakers are bolted in nice and tight, alot of people get big speakers twat them on the back of the nonse in accidents, apparantly. it might be worth suggesting to check your wiring before its all finally stuck in place, it save pulling it all out and starting over! remember to pull the fuse out of the headunit BEFORE you connect it to the battery. saves blowing it. i did a 50 amp fuse as my first and only reminder oh, good tool for the wiring - multimeter or one of those screwdrivers that light up when stuck in a plug socket bzzzzzzt

Are you explaining to me how to wire speakers? LOL!! Thanks, but I've been messing with car audio off and on for roughly 15 years now , but I noticed TrustyTom mentioned there was already wiring for rear speakers in the factory harness, thought maybe he could shed some light on where these wires were located to see if mine had them as well.

Oh, the justy is only my winter beater, and I'm not looking to put anything extravagant stereo wise into it, just something to fill out the rear a little.

yeah sorry, i got bored last night and just started typing away......i figured someone who has never done it before might read it! nice corrado by the way! its hard to find a non thrashed VR6 round here now, otherwise it would be on my 'to get' list...but now im looking at a 1969 Fort Cortina with a Lotus 1600 X-flow in it. im still undecided though as its in need of some work still and im a bit scared it will be stolen . very cool car though, with candy apple paint and 7x13 minilights etc! we'll see....

There will be wiring for the rear speakers in place, I think they sit under the panel that covers the spare tire in the back.

Funny - my 1991 4x4 GL doesn't have rear speaker wires - well, didn't. I put in a Sony CD/MP3 deck and a set of Infinity Kappa 4x6 Plate speakers in the front in the dash (4" woofer, plus a tweeter) and Kappa 3-way coaxials in the rear hatch. I made a masonite panel which is stiffened with a thin aluminum bar and covered in dynamat. This holds the rear speakers in the hatch and forms a baffle plate. I ran the wire up through the hatch passed through into the roof with the existing harness there, down the C pillar near the taillight, under the back seat, up the tunnel to the back of the deck. Sounds nice but completely lacks bass. I found a small 50w x2 Sony amp and an 8" bazooka I can put in there, but it's got to be quick release and I can't till I get a luggage cover in the rear.

What size are the 3 ways you put in the back? 6x9? I would think a 6x9 should give you decent base (maybe not rattle the license plate type of bass, but good sound), but I would be interested to know. The Infinity Kappa were on my speaker possibilities list.
