Hand brake dashboard light: intermittent fault: Hoping for some help from the team. I have an intermittent fault with the hand brake light on my dashboard. It illuminates correctly when the ignition is turned on, and then goes out when I take off the hand brake when I accelerate away. However on occasions the light has illuminated and won't go out. I was thinking to check the fuses, but the fuse box is labelled in Japanese and no English - so that is going to be a drama in its own right. In my experience the fuse numbers and what they are linked to never tie up with what the manual says. The only manual I have (which covers US and Canadian Subaru cars ONLY) says to check the "sender unit" but I don't know where this is and the book assumes a level of knowledge that I don't have. What should I be checking?Details: Subaru Justy MYMEII 1991 4WD - 5 door Manual Right hand drive Japanese import to New Zealand. Hoping that someone can give me some guidance, as I lost my job in the tourism industry and I need my wheels, so whatever fixes I can do myself (or at least narrow the options) is going to cost me less $.

My Justy has the same problem. I have been able to improve it though not completely eliminate it, though with a little more work I should be able to fix it completely. As best as I can tell, the metal on the handbrake switch builds up oxidation. When this happens, it doesn’t always ground properly. If you get electrical cleaner and clean the contact points really well it should fix it. You may have to do this multiple times. If you remove the center console, there’s a little white, spring loaded button. The bottom of it is what you need to clean. Hope that helps!
