So I am finally to upgrade my tires. I need better traction in the rain and such, so I am thinking about going with a wider tire. currently running 175/70R13
they seem a but narrow for my style so I want to get something with some more width, but I am wanting to know what others have tried to know what I can get away with. I have read that the height can't change, so I need to find the numbers to get the right series matched to the width.
I want to go with a 205 width (if it will fit) but not sure what series to pick. Possibly a 55 or 60(to keep the same height)??
any experience would be great!!
thanks, Connor

Yer gonna hate me... cause I just knocked down the oil thing... But 205's is crazy for a 1900lb car... A good 185 is way more then the stock suspension can deal with... 195 looks "cool" and is too wide. Think that all that extra meat is extra rotational inertial you have to bring up to speed... Look cool, get 335's... Be cool? go 175. Says the guy running 145 70's on the VW polo in the mountains, keeping up with Octavia's both on the up and the down...

Thanks for putting it into perspective! I might just stick with what I bought last time, and go with the 175s again. They seemed to do decent, but some hydroplaning around 60mph on a soaked highway. I figured wider tires would solve that, but it might not be worth the decreased MPG, considering it never rains much here in NC.

I ended up with General Altimax 175/70R13, and just been running 70mph in the rain all week no problem. I ended up doing an alignment when I installed the tires, and found the steer ahead was wayy off, giving me a lot of the problems with traction. I couldnt keep the car straight on the road in 4wd when it was snowing, and thought it was all related to camber numbers. But when I put my car on the rack, I found that the camber was pretty good, only made a slight toe adjustment up front, and one of the rear lower control arms to set the steer ahead angle. Now it drives itself
