OK, Getting the rebuilt motor from the machine shop next week.
Its a 92 fuel injected 5 speed.
This is my first time ever replacing an engine, or dealing with a new or rebuilt motor so I am looking around this site and the internet looking for info on how to break in a new motor.
Here are a few things I have learned so far.
Reattach motor to car/transmission/and connect everything else that was disconnected from removing engine but leave spark plugs out, distributor disconnected, fuel injectors wires disconnected.
Add all fluids.
add a little oil to each spark plug hole/fuel filter and fuel filter hole.
Turn over engine for long bursts with starter (carfull not to burn out starter) to get oil thoroughly distributed throughout engine.
Connect/install spark plugs and wires, distributor and fuel injector wires.
Now we are ready to start engine
Start engine and run at idle while
Checking for leaks etc. Stop engine and fix if needed.
adjust valves if needed.
Take out for a drive. Drive it gently for the first block going up through the gears
till you are safely out of the residential houses and playgrounds.. ... .... Then drive it like you stole it and you are being chased by a bunch of angry bikers who want to kill you......Seriously.....I read somewhere that a break in that is hard and abusive will seat the rings and result in better horsepower than all than old hoopla about being nice and stuff.
Change oil and filter at 500 miles.
OK, so this is basically it right?
