Hey y'all I recently installed a rebuilt carburetor ($200 after the core from nationalcarburetors.com). The choke is not opening. I think that was the problem with my old carb. I had a mechanic in Arizona take a quick look at it and he said the choke is not getting power from the ECU. His fix was to zip tie the choke open. Now that it's getting colder here in Minnesota, it's getting hard to start. Where would you start looking for a solution? Replace the ECU? I'm getting an error code 24, but I'm not sure what that means on an 89 with a carb.

I cut the zip tie off today, and the choke closed. The engine was cold. I started it and the choke slowly opened. I wonder why he zip tied it. What's that thing in the top right of the picture with 2 nipples coming out of it?

that thing is a dashpot for the idle up circuit i think.
and if thats what your choke is doing its operating properly. no idea why it wasnt before.
it has a bi-metal spring in it that looks like a coil and as it heats either through electricity or just ambient engine heat it will open the choke. it will also open if a certain throttle position is reached.
