Yep, that's right, somebody actually had the testicular fortitude to attempt to STEAL MY JUSTY!!!! Dammit....an officer is on his way......I don't know how bad the ignition is, it looks pretty bad, but...what next? ? they didn't even steal a SINGLE ratchet wrench, or my jumper cables, or ANYTHING. Wow....

Idiots, it's way easier to just hot wire it. Plus who would be dumb enough to steal a justy? Sticks out like a sore thumb and no huge demand for parts. What, did they think it was a honda?
Sorry you were victimized. I wish I had a lock cylinder for you.

The funny thing about that, other than the obvious, is between the 4 Subaru's I own I can interchange the keys mostly without issue.
If they had a generation correct Subaru key they probably could have saved themselves 10 minutes of drilling. Not like it would have helped them, tho.

Terry I have try this with my 92 keys on my 87/88 parts car and i just open the boot (just because someone destroys the lock with screw diver) and no change with 87/88 keys in 92... and I have not original spare key with not more than 0.5mm of bad cut and you can't use it to open car... Anyways the easiest and cheapest way to protect your car is make a kill switch You can switch your starter (no start), ignition(just turning engine), fuel pump (just turn engine, but on carburated cars you can start and get off your parking place and than you have no fuel...) turn off one or more headlight/lights (In USA this can attract cops... no effect here in Slovakia ), or turn on hazard lights with ignition... anything you can imagine can be done for some 5 bucks... (remember you can have more than one switch!)

Bah.....so should I just wait until I get a new ignition to get the keys cut, or should I get the keys cut from the door-lock cylinder first.....

Are you suggesting second-gens have the same keys as the first?

That interchangeable key is kinda handy for when I locked my keys in my '81 Brat, I just had to get someone to bring me the keys to my '89 Justy and the car open right up. lol

I think this doesn't matter much anymore since the starter (not the ignition)(i don't think, I'm dumb when it comes to the starter/ignition) is shot to shit. I don't even know the first thing to removing whatever it is you stick your key in to start the car.....I'm just kind of frustrated, that's all.......the key I left in alaska still isn't here, and even if it came tomorrow it wouldn't matter because I have to replace the starter (or whatever). *sigh*

If it comes to it, I might be able to get you a lock cylinder out of one of the Junkyard Justy's here in Klamath Falls that still have the key with it and mail it to you. Might be kinda annoying though having different keys, one that unlocks the door and one for the ignition.

I have two key blanks from Subie, I was going to have them copied from either the key that I left in Alaska that has yet to be here, or from my door lock cylinder.
Now that my ignition is destroyed, I'm going to have to get a new one. Or a used one. Lol keys are not the issue anymore, it is now getting my ignition situation rectified....

What year is yours? I have most of a 1990 for parts and may be able to spare you a column / the parts to fix yours depending on how much you need. Email me at this username @w1kas.net if I do not respond quickly enough on here and you need the parts. There are two within 1.5 hours at the Pick-n-Pull junkyards: row52.com/Vehicle/Index/JF2KA83A2KD718655 '89 manual 4wd in Portland row52.com/Vehicle/Index/JF1KA72A1JB710699 '88 manual fwd in Sherwood If you can't find what you need on one of those (iirc 88 would be firstgen and 89 would be secondgen?) I will also gladly do some horse trading with you, I have a variety of parts I am looking for and have a ton of stuff I don't need.

It's an 88. And its the ignition unit. It's there, but you can't put the key (that I still don't have) in it. I've got pics on other threads going
