I have (had?) a 1988 Justy 4x4. Sadly, a visiting kid rolled it. Frame is fine, engine, tranny (5-spd), etc. I found a 2WD with a shot engine in Dallas. I'm curious if I can swap bodies, or if this would be ridiculously complex. Loved my little Justy and I'd hate to just junk it! Thanks for any advice!

It can be done and should be fairly easy if you have both cars there.
What year is the one with the blown motor?

if he rolled it how can you tell if the chassis is straight? this is a unitized body car. the body is the frame.
would make more sense to put the drivetrain in the un-crashed car. unless you are positive theres no frame damage. and i almost guarantee there is. cars arent meant to be on their lids.

Frame is fine. Car was ran off the side of the road, turned on its side. The other Justy is 2wd, so a swap won't work (not interested in having a 2wd Justy). Opinions seem to be diverging here. Most likely, I'll pull the wrecked one into the shop, see if I can remove the body.

You'd just need to swap over the rear subframe with the 4wd bits on it. Short list of the needed parts are, driveshaft, trans, shifter assembly, rear diff, rear subframe, rear hub/brakes. So no cutting and welding to swap bodies, just unbolting. There is no true frame, just front and rear subframes. I think that's where the confusion is coming in.
However, the body donor car needs to be a gen 1, 87 or 88 for it to be a straight swap. If it's newer it'll be a bit more complicated, but still possible.
