Hello, this is my first post in this forum, so I want to introduce myself in a short way : I´m Benny Müller from Germany. Old cars are my passion - for sure. I´m a big Fan of the old Dutch Daf´s with Variomatic Transmisson. There are a few of them in my barn next to an early Volvo 244, a Fiat 500 and a Citroën DS. A few years ago I realised that the Justy was built with Variomatic-Transmisson ( same principle as at the Daf´s, just a little "modern" ), 4WD and Three-Cylinder Engine. Which I found very interessting especially because we live in the mountains and have a lot of snow in Winter. So I startet to look for one. After one year I have found my car. It was really hard to find a good one, but the search was worth it. This is my 1995 Justy 1200i Gli ECVT : lh6.googleusercontent.com/-325a1H6myqA/TwSRe6sW-3I/AAAAAAAAD4o/3JhhB-viDQM/s800/IMG_2570.jpgThe problem now is, that the ECVT is very noisy. Sounds like there is something broken in it. The car is still driving but i won´t to because I cant drown it anymore with the radio : www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UXiFtiXqCASo my first question is : How is the ECVT to remove out of the car ? Are there some "specials" to note while do this work ? Is it possible to fix the Variomatic ? Hope for your help salut Benny www.vandoorne-daf.de

Welcome to the forum!
Are you sure it's coming from the transmission? That noise sure sounded horrible. First thing I would do is remove the starter and look in to see if the drive clutch bolts are falling out. I've seen this happen before and it sounds similar. You'll have to spin the engine over a bit to see all of them. If that isn't it it most likely has a bad bearing in the transmission.
The engine and trans have to come out together before being separated. The trans can be disassembled without too much trouble but you definitely should have a factory service manual before doing it. I've successfully rebuilt a few over the years using parts from spare transmissions I had. Easier than conventional auto trannies to work on.

That sounds more like a engine noise of some kind, not a CVT noise, as not many things are moving in the CVT when the car is parked.

That sounds more like a engine noise of some kind, not a CVT noise, as not many things are moving in the CVT when the car is parked. Good catch! You are totally right about that. The only thing turning in the trans when it's parked is the oil pump. If the sound is coming from the transmission area it would almost have to be the powder clutch to flex plate bolts falling out. It does sound a little bit more like a wore out bottom end and drive chain in the engine. Time for a stethoscope!

Oh, I did not say that : The car was raised when I made the video. So one wheel was turning. The engine alone sounds normal. The horrible sound starts when the vario starts to turn. The clutch also works as usual, and apart from the noise the cars turns - until now ... Today I pulled out the dipstick of the vario and found iron abrasion on it. To start with the starter is a good idea Ihink - Nomen est omen I do now have the original Subaru manual for the Justy. Thank´s for your help ! Bye the way, this is a very nice Justy Forum ... And I´m really amazed that there isn´t a usefull German spoken Forum for the Justy salut Benny
