Tire size won't affect the cv angle, as your are not changing the alignment of the transmission to the axle hub. It sounds like you're just putting blocks on the top of the struts, if so the only way to fix your axle issue is to lower the engine/transaxle along with the struts, but that's not good for clearance..
You could try messing with your camber but chances are you won't compensate nearly enough before your front end is all out of whack.

Terry is right, the taller tire won't affect your cv angle at all. Really a taller tire will do nothing to the suspension geometry. It would be the same effect as driving up on to a block.
That being said, we have adjustable spring perches on the car, and often run about 1.5" above stock ride height, and have yet to break a CV...
For what it's worth.

hey thanks for the feedback guys its awesome to get feedback from guys without crappy attitude or hate on an idea i think i will keep my strut spacer lift to 1.5"- 1.75" max as madmatt said he hasnt had serious issues with it i will make a DIY for it for whatever members will be interested in taking a similar approach!

You already know I am doing the same thing lift wise Nick, just slightly different styles Can't wait for more. Matt it is good to know you guys have no issues with raising up slightly. I am only looking for enough height to clear my 14" offroad'ish tires and wheels I only need an 1" anyway, lol. -Jamie

I would like to know what you plan to do about the rear suspension as they are not macpherson struts and will probably require the hole rear sub frame to be changed.

if it has a top hat then it can be lifted wift a spacer lol, i will just have to figure out how much of a ratio there will be strut top lift to actual lift in the car, it really shouldnt be too difficult to do though, i will make sure when i do the lift kit that i make a diy for it for all to be able to see it.

Uniacke,
Rockauto ships to Canada no problem. No hidden fees from what you see.
But your local jobber should be able to get them for you too. I had decent luck at the PartSource in sackville... Did you try C-tire??? The guy at the parts counter on Quinpool that drives the vespa's, he can find stuff most C-tire folks don't even know exist... (like a condenser for my MG...)
And if they don't pan out call gotebourg 902-452-4764, he may not be able to get them... but he'll know who can. Tell him Matt with the copper 240 sent you.
I miss the Ocean Playground...

Ivonko
For our rear springs, we use regular 2 5/8 roundy round springs... set on a plate, with a tube welded on it, and then a threaded "coil over kit" slid over the tube... then we can raise or lower at will. I can get a pic, but it will be a few days.

+ 1 for some pics. I have had thoughts of welding ground control type coil over spring units to the OE struts but not really good on spare $ right now to try.

has anybody considered cutting out and welding in strut towers from say a fozzy or impreza then plugging in their mcphersons?

I have had the same thought and that is basically what the King Ferry STI Justy had done to it.

K, here's the rear at full droop. That's a "roundy round" spring, sorry, slang for circle track... AFCO springs. Cheap and various length and rates. That happens to be a 10" sping, I think the rate is 185 or 225.... high because of the motion ratio between the axle and the spring perch. The adjustable perch is a cheap "coil over kit" which is nothing more then a threaded sleeve, perch and tool to spin the perch... The threaded sleeve is slid over a piece of thick walled pipe, welded to a plate that bolts in at the top. I had to cut the stock spring perch out. Here's the front. Same threaded sleeve, and perch. sitting on the stock perch. 12" 185lb springs up front. Matt
