Hey guys, thanks for the help.
I replaced the front pads and rear drums on my 95 GL last fall anad everything seemed to work fine.
I parked the car for the summer and replaced both front cv axles just recently.
I took it for a test drive and found that when I'm braking, the pedal thumps under my foot and there's a clunking noise coming from one of the wheels. I suspect it's the passenger side, but it's hard to pin-point.
Anyway, I removed the front wheels and checked the calipers and rotors and pads and everything seems to be mechanically sound.
I swapped the front and rear tires around to see if maybe one of them had a torn up sidewall (happened to my Jetta once) but i get the same thing.
It snowed last night finally, so it's time for the Justy to rip again but I wanna solve this problem first..
Any ideas?

Did you replace the spindle hardware on both sides when you did the CVs? If the conical washer wears down it causes all sorts of fun. Each hardware kit is ~$5. Well worth it to replace the hardware, torque the castle nut, and know it's done right.

The new axles came with new castle nuts, yeah. But there weren't conical washes on the fronts, only the rears. The front axles slip through the hub and the only things they contact are the bearings inside the hub and two flat washers, then the castle nut... does that sound correct?

That's so weird. I don't remember seeing ANY of that stuff on my front axles.. :/
I'm gonna rip the wheels back off and take another look.
Definitely gonna order 4 of those kits asap, thanks man!

So while I was sorting out my overheating issue, I got to the bottom of my clunking problem as well!
Yes, I indeed do have conical washers on my front axles as well. And they seem to be in great shape.
Apparently the driver's side wheel bearing(s) are worn enough so the wheel is slightly loose in the hub.
The last time I ordered bearings for the Justy I only ordered rears and they came from some shady, basement operation in Brooklyn, lol. I doubt I could ever find them again if I tried.. are they pretty easy to acquire?

are they pretty easy to acquire? Easier than the 4wd rears as they're both(inner & outer) identical. Order up four 6206(I think...) and some dealer seals. Try Rockauto or your local bearing supply.

Ok sweet, so on a 4WD, the front inner and outer are the same? Rockauto is also telling me that the front iner and outer are the same as the rear inner?..
