I lowered my 88 Justy for about $10. I bouhgt 8 cable clamps ( clamps used to tie a wire cable at the end when you put a tow hook on like on a winch for 4wheeling ). They look like a small u bolt with 2 nuts and a body that clamps the cable. I then discarded the bodies and made 8 flat plates with 2 holes to fit onto the u bolts. Then you compress 2 coils on each side of the spring together and clamp them with the clamps. I was able to do it on the car front and rear but it might be easyier to take the springs off first, it depends on what you have to compress the springs with. It lowered my car about 1 3/4". Doing that and putting P175/70-13 tires on made the handling go from turd econobox to go cart. The ride is a little bumpy compared to stock but better than cut springs and it is reversable. I am still using the stock strut and shocks. Check the alignment front an rear as I did because ride hight can change as the suspention cycles. I have 35,000 on this mod with zero problems. Don't go to low on the tire hight because the tire starts to be more of the suspention and the springs get stiffer.

I can see the compressed coils relaxing over time, but since they are touching it wont effect anything unless you decide to take the clamps off.

agreed, wait till one bolt lets go suddenly on one side of the spring and the spring bends and the resulting damage to the strut spears you into an oncoming truck at 50 mph... stupid mod and bloody dangerous. This sort of dumb idiocy is why they invented certification tests for cars.
