My Justy needs a windshield, and in the process of removing the rubber seal, it turns out there is some very serious cancer below the windshield. Enough that it would not really be practical to simply replace the windscreen.
My Justy is one I saved from the jaws of death and I really like the little fella. It's technically not worth the cost of repair, however I really want to do some welding. I have not done any welding in years, and I need to purchase a unit still (or an oxy/acetylene setup). My skill level is that I can safely operate the gear, tack two pieces together and do what may pass as a bead. Basically I need LOTS of practice. I have some metal pieces to practice on as well - some of which seems to be similar thickness to the Justy sheetmetal.
Anyway, this is not the best idea. I am doing this to learn, and to save my little Justy. I am going to go by a body shop I know and see if they would be willing to fab me a piece of metal to fill the area below - it will basically be the width of the lower side of the windscreen, with around an inch of metal to come down toward the wipers, then a step down toward the dash and into the cabin to form the spot welded section that attaches the lower side of the windshield. I am aware that I will need to remove the windscreen (and possibly the dash) before they could do this. Also I am aware that MUCH prep work will be needed before any welding can happen.
The purpose of this thread is to have a space to track the project if it actually happens, and provide a forum for people to tell me I am crazy for even thinking about doing this.
If anyone has any pictures of the windscreen area of a 2nd Gen Justy with the windscreen out, I would love to see them! If anyone has any experience removing/replacing the Justy windshield (or "rope in" windscreens of this type in general, it's been a few years for me) drop me a line! If, as crazy as it sounds, someone can cut out this section from a wrecked car or thinks it's possible, let's talk about it! I will post up some pics of the affected area soon.
