Hey everyone!
I got my Justy yesterday for free from a buddy of mine who didn't want it anymore, and considering he will be leaving soon for the military, he will be driving a much nicer car soon enough anyways lol.
I've wanted the Justy ever since I first saw it, I knew it would be a great project to work on.
I do not have pictures at the moment, but I will get some tomorrow and get them posted though for everyone's enjoyment.
The car starts and runs pretty well, however there is definitely some work that could be done. The valve cover gasket needs to be replaced, along with most of the exhaust.
I was also going to fit it with new plugs, wires, a cap, a distributor rotor, and a battery.
But a couple questions I have about it:
Why when I drive it does it feel like it is dragging? I suspect it has something to do with the emergency brake being tight or locked up a bit? All four wheels do turn (with and without the AWD activated), but it just seems as though there is a heavier load on the engine than there should be.
Also, the windshield wipers do not work. I checked EVERY fuse in the car and to my surprise, I found that none of them were disabled. Would the problem be the wiper motor itself? And if so, where would I be able to find a replacement?
Concerning the exhaust, I can't find any replacement systems or even pieces anywhere besides Dusty's Justys, and I would REALLY like to stay away from paying over $600.00 for a new exhaust system for it. Any ideas?
Other than that stuff, from your experience here, is there anything else I should just replace off the bat beyond the minor/basic maintenance?
P.S. Seeing as the Justy isn't anything special to begin with, and I have it SOLELY to take good MECHANICAL care of it and enjoy it, I will probably be gutting a lot of it out. The interior of this car is damn near IMMACULATE for being an '88. My dad couldn't believe it when he first saw it. And beyond that, I live in central Wisconsin, and there is very little rust on the body. From seeing other cars the same age from the area and such, theoretically there should almost be nothing left of the car lol. The frame and such is rusty of course underneath, but overall I am very pleased with the quality and condition of the car.
After all, it WAS free.
So I guess for now this just about sums everything up. I am looking forward to your feedback, and would like to thank you ahead of time for the help.
I am looking forward to getting to know you guys and can't wait to keep you all posted on the project to bring this car back to it's rugged AWD glory.
