Ok innocent question time, why is it better to turn the hubs down instead of opening the center hole to 56mm? Bigger lathe, yes, but much less work. Or is it about the flex & integrity of the hub area of the wheel? TNX <<<))) The main reason to turn down the hub to a more common size is it allows a much wider variety of rims to choose from. Only two hubs to do versus four rims. You can get away with boring out just two rims to fit the front but you'll loose the ability to rotate your wheels.

... why is it better to turn the hubs down instead of opening the center hole to 56mm? It's not better; It's easier. The hub was designed as Hub-Centric and grinding the hubs down eliminates this design/safety feature. This has been a debate on here for a while. I would have the hub bore opened up on the rims personally, but this is one of those "to each his/her own" topics.

open up the rims, don't grind the hubs, they are thin enough as it is.

the additional issue is that if you grind the hubs and they crack and fail (which they will from heat stress during braking over time) you will be liable for any damage you cause if you have an accident...and kiss any insurance goodbye, modification of such things is pretty much illegal everywhere. A good wheel agent should be able to turn the rim centre out pretty easily and cheaply.
oh, don't use adapter washers either, get new whell studs pressed in with a 1.5 mm pitch and use the proper wheel nuts if your rims have different seats to the justy originals.

I find one rule from math to be the best always modifie the smaller, or cheaper part, so if you have to pick between grind the car and grind the accessory grind the accessory!!! If you grind the hub and some other difficulty keeps you from a good fit you got a car with a ground hub, and wheel that doesn't fit. If you grind the rim and it doesn't work you still got a car, with no ground of stuff.
