Alright so the other day when I was replacing the driver's side hub I figured hell I might as well jack the whole car up and inspect the 4x4 system and see how it all works. Well the short of it was that it didnt.
I spent about 2 hours yesterday going through all the wiring and vacuum lines making sure things were good. Someone along the way swapped the car from a ECVT 4WD to a 5-Speed 4wd. And they did a half-ass job of connecting the wires from the switch to the harness and from the harness to the vacuum switch/solenoid deal( on the right side under the windshield).
I even went as far as to take apart the 4WD switch in the gear stick. BUt I made sure all the contacts were clean and all the wires are properly connected and everything is properly grounded and there is still no 4WD.
So here's my question. Unfortunately I still have the ECVT cluster so I have no 4WD indicator light. But I know the electrical connections are good. And I have a excellent amount of vacuum going to the switch/solenoid deal.
But when I press the 4WD switch vacuum is delivered to the solenoid but no vacuum is sent to the transmission/transfer case. And when the switch is returned to the normal position, there is no vacuum coming from the solenoid/switch again.
So is it safe to say after confirming all the wiring is good, and there is vacuum going to the switch but not being transferred to transfer case that my problem lies in the vacuum solenoid/switch?? Or I am missing something?

Alright here we go, So today I got frustrated about not having any 4-wheel drive. SO i decided to figure this out once and for all. I had my spare 4wd Vacuum Solenoid, and I was going to put it in. Well when I took the old one out I wanted to see which solenoid had fried. I attached power wires and ground wires and tested both, BOTH WORKED PERFECTLY! So after scratching my head for awhile, I started to look furthur and inspect everything. And bear with me here. But I failed to notice, and the PO failed in stall a power wire to the solenoids. SO after some extensive reading on this forum and calling a friend, I figured it all out. The 4wd switch, switches the ground; not the power. There is constant power to both, and all the switch does is changes the solenoid it grounds out. The Yellow&Red wires are the grounds to the 4wd solenoid and the white wire coming off I assumed was a ground for the switch or something, so I attached it to the uni-body. This was a learning experience for me, But i am happy to report the 4wd is working I have vacuum going out both ends of the solenoid at the appropriate times. I would like to cite the following posts as well, they helped out quite a bit. subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=engine&action=display&thread=1174www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-59373.html
