First off I'll take the opportunity to say Hi, I'm Dan & am I ever glad I found this forum. I've spent the last couple of days trawling the Suzuki forums looking for info on the SCVT/ECVT box fitted to the Cultus Convertible I've just rescued from the crusher. Why? Because I love a challenge (not to mention a rare car).
It seems that I am the only person who actually has an SCVT box over here but from what I gather it's basically the ECVT box renamed, so hopefully I'll be able to get some advice from people with experience of this system.
The symptoms of this failure are that while engaging R,D or L the box seems to have plenty of "bite" as the engine nearly stalls & the car rolls along like you'd expect of an auto, but when you press the accelerator it seems to slip really badly (I've had it up to 35Km/h nursing it on light throttle but the revs are still about 4500rpm at this speed, any heavy throttle just revs harder with very little increase in speed. Also, the tranny fluid is a little brown & yukky (although I've seen a lot worse in cars that drive perfectly).
Do these symptoms ring a bell to anyone or does anybody have a suggestion of what I should be checking out first? I will pull the starter motor later on & see if I can get to the clutch brushes I've read about, although to my mind the symptoms do point to worn out clutches. (I hope not as it's only done 36,000 miles!)
Any suggestions would be much appreciated, also if anyone has any diagrams/service data/fluid grade & capacity etc they wouldn't mind sharing, my email is dan.mackintosh(at)btinternet.com
Many thanks in advance for any help, I'd really like to fix this if I can & without breaking a Swift for it's manual box if at all possible...
Cheers, Dan.
