I have a 1988 Justy with the 12" wheels. Will 13" Justy wheels fit without modifications? Thanks.

In my Justy 88' I could not hold rims 13", It touches in the chassis Woah woah woah, hold on a second there partner. Many of us (including myself) have 13" wheels on Gen1 (1984-1988) Justys. There are two dimensions that your car is concerned with here: - How your width is happening
- How your height is happening
Since very few 13" wheels are too wide for a Justy, I can assume the problem was with the offset of the wheel. In terms of overall height, it really comes down to the tire, not the wheel. You can fit 16" wheels on a Justy if you can fit low enough profile tires to them When you are using a common 13" wheel like a 13X5.5, your offset cannot be any greater than about +35 or what is sometimes expressed as ET35. If you choose your wheels and tires carefully, you can use 13" or 14" rims and tires trouble free. Lot's of us are doing it. Here is a Gen1 Justy successfuly using 13" Panasports and 185/60R13 tires. My fav! And here is a Gen2 with 15" wheels Get some awesome 13" wheels and enjoy yourself

hello there! , i have an 88 justy and i can feel it spins the original 12" with ease... so i wondered if a set of 13" made the torque lose some grunt. i would like to improve gas mileage and lessen engine wear... maybe even 14"?...

When plus sizing wheels it is recommended to use a tire and larger wheel combination that maintains the closest similarity to original equipment. The first step to accomplishing this is reducing the profile (sidewall height) to make up for the additional diameter of the wheel. The second issue is the actual weight of the wheel - adding unsprung weight is your challenge to performance. Width issues are also to be considered see seattlejusty post above. If you can find a good balance to these three issues, you will VERY happy with the increased traction/contact patch plus sizing affords you. NOTE: The terms 'racing', 'lightweight' and 'alloy' DON'T necessarily mean that the wheel is lighter than your OEM steel wheel. Bring a scale to the shops - stay away from 'mall-racing' stores that sell alot of 'stick-on' accessories and chrome hubcaps. If you research locally and online, there are plenty of 13s, 14s, and even a few biggers that will be at least as light and ready to be combined with a shorter tire. Good Hunting,

I do want to say something though, about one little thing you asked. In terms of affecting gas mileage (fuel consumption) it is only downhill from here. That is to say that nothing can beat the 12" wheel and tire that came standard on a Justy when it comes to good mileage. They weigh next to nothing and if you keep the tires pumped up rock hard, they'll give you better "mileage" than any 13" or 14" wheel. The point in plus sizing on a Justy is to improve traction, gain a greater availability of tire options, reduce cruising RPM and maybe enhance the looks (the last one is subjective, not factual). Like I said though, 89 summed it up already.

My Justy is original with 12" 145x80 and I use them for the winter, but at the summer I'm with 13" 175x70 original Subaru alloy wheel, with 13" the mileage is high only at highway at the city is better with 12'', also with 13" I feel lack of power, gears are longer and need higher revs when switch uphill, with 12" acceleration is better, but lower high speed, also comfort is improved with 13" but lower stability in the corner

thats great to know, and i liked the term "mall-racing" stores, fits well those sellers that care more about placing NOS stickers everywere than learning what a horsepower really is. je je...

The easiest way to upgrade to 13" rims is too call your local wrecker and get a set of 13" Justy rims. Obviously, they will have the proper bolt pattern, offset and center bore. Worked well for me with my 88'. I did have to hammer and cut away a tiny bit at the mudflap etc. Could be that my suspension is a bit saggy. Good luck! By the way, I am not against the idea of 'mag' wheels but nothing looks better, on a Justy, than painted steelies imo. Thanks to oodles of good advice from fellow members, the thread I started with the possibility of using 15"+ went on to cover many options on ways to make wheels fit etc. The subject has been covered numerous times. Perhaps someone should put together a 'wheel guide' for the guides thread. it would be handy to have a single thread cover every possibilty, without mods of course. subarujusty.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=wheelsandtires&action=display&thread=2127My '88 with it's original 12" wheels and cheesy wheel covers: With 13" Justy rims, painted black:
