My brother-in-law gave my son has an 89 3 door. It was converted to a 5 speed before we got it. It has about 20-30,000 miles on a rebuilt engine. The engine and tranny conversion were done at the same time. My opinion is that the person who did the work for my brother-in-law was not concerned about doing a quality job. The engine has been leaking oil since we got the car. Last week the clutch started making a grinding noise and the car would not shift. It seems the clutch was not adjusted correctly. We pulled the whole engine for ease of access. While we have the engine out, are there any other repairs or parts that should be replaced? We are obviously going to identify where the oil leaks are coming from and replace the leaking gaskets. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We plan to sell the car as soon as we find a decent 4WD pick up for my son who is a deer hunter and the Justy is just not practical for hauling a home his trophy buck. I want to make sure that the car is in good running order when we sell it.

Oil pump, water pump and timing belt are all good to do while the engine is out.
If you gut the interior the buck can be the copilot!

Thanks, we will also check the other items you mentioned.
I will suggest to my son that he let the buck be a co-pilot. I am pretty sure he plans on getting a deer that is too big to fit in the car. If he ends up hauling a deer in the Justy, I will post a picture.
I did find a "thing-a-ma-jig" that needs to be replaced. I am not sure what it is. I took some pictures and I will post them as soon as I figure out how to post them.

i believe that is either a second oxygen sensor or an exhaust gas temp sensor? not sure as both of mine do not have anything there.

Hmmm ....my Justy doesn't have that either...I wonder if that is an aftermarket cat with an extra O2 sensor, or one in the wrong place for the Justy wiring. I only have one O2 sensor near the top near the manifold.

i'll third the "you don't need that on a Justy" statement.
you can cap it off or just leave it and trip the wire.

Thanks for the info. I am glad to hear that the thing-a-ma-jig is not needed. The car ran fine before the clutch problem, so I figured it may not be a vital part. If anyone thinks any different, please let me know.
As I said in my first post, we will be selling this car when we find a truck for my son. I plan to list it here first when we are ready to sell. I will have pictures at that time. I will try to make them smaller than the pictures of the mystery part.

the first one on the top is the lambda probe, the lower sensor is the oxygen sensor.

isn't lambda probe just another name for an oxygen sensor?

no. its two different parts.
the upper one for the lambda value, the lower one for the oxygen value.

no. its two different parts. the upper one for the lambda value, the lower one for the oxygen value. That's what the Lambda does, if there's O2 than it gives a 1 signal
