Don't get me wrong, I love my Justy. But the damn thing won't start. It was running just fine. I drove 1/4 mile down the road, then a huge backfire, gurgle.. backfire, then stepping on the gas peddle and nothing. So after pulling my little bundle of grease, oil and rust back to my home, I start investigating. I have a 91' 2bbl (carburetor). I had recently had the Carb rebuilt w/ a kit. So I immediately thought it was that. I've checked the fuel pump, carb is getting fuel. Added treatment to fuel and oil in case of some condensation from setting for a while. Starter is turning but no ignition..(obviously.) I've replaced the plugs. The plug wires, and distributor are less than a year old. About six months ago I had the head shaved and new gaskets all around. except for rear main. My Sub guy told me that my crank pulley was "missing" IE..the timing was hard to set b/c it seemed as if it was slipping. So WTF?.....I've peeked into the timing blet cover and belt is still there and seems tight... I didn't want to take the crank pulley off, if avoidable b/c I think we all know what a freakin pain that is. So if any of you Justy buffs could lend me some advice before I roll the damn thing into the river....I'd appreciate it!..

je,
Make double certain the timing belt didn't break... mine looked and felt quite tight - stuck in the housing... you can hear by the wimpy/whooshing motor/no full crank sound...
Whether your searching for Stacks' above recommendation or any other... Tip: If you try to search something on these boards, try changing the default '10 days past' to something like 500 days... also instead of 'display 10 messages' switch to, say, 25 or some such...
Good Luck and/or Skill,

Thanks stacks and 89 for the great info!....However I didn't have to go far to find the problem after all this time. I pulled the distributor cap off and low and behold the button had worked it's self loose!...So one rotor button and cap later I'm up and running...I guess next time I'll Keep It Simple Stupid!!
