I stumbled across this site looking for info on my new little toy, 1989 Subaru Justy RS, I know very little about these little goobers and mine does not run yet, but i have sean some... interesting things done to them on youtube, and well they held up. I am searching for more info on the RS models trying to see what is so special about the RS. I keep drawing blanks. Hopfully pictures will come some day.

;D Welcome, my 89 RS brother! My perpetual project/daily driver/ice racer (should we ever get winter again in NY!) is the very same year and model. It seems to be darn tootin' the same as a GL 4WD, with the exception of the RS decal on the hatch and color coded bumpers/red moulding pinstripes/additional upholstery patterns. I've been meaning to ask if any 4WD GLers out there have the remote trunk release and trunk lock as well - could that be the RS advantage - ?? I know the first gen JUSTYs also were available as an RS package... while I've seen photos of a couple that seemed to have a unique gold on black stock color scheme, I am also unfortunately not aware of any 'tuning' components that would distinguish it from other 4WD models. In the mean time (unless someone has info to validate otherwise), I will continue to try to do justice to the RS designation of my seemingly GL JUSTY via homebrew and frankensteined 'aftermarket' bits... while keeping a record here: subarujusty.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=1812. Let us know how your RS is progressing! Good Luck and/or Skill,

My Gen 2 4wd GL has the remote trunk lock release. Really simple design, and it is really nice to have.

I just picked up the whole enchelada for the rear hatch release. From the front handle to the rear latch, and all attaching hardware. The DL didn't have it, but did have a blank-off plate in the hatch sill area. This could be installed and give you the inside release.

Well the "Creature" as my friend and i have named it has been put on a back burner for a few days, i am almost completly sure that the engine is siezed, and i recently threw the springs out of the clutch on my VW. I have found a replacement short block out of a 1985 AWD that is in pull apart, I have yet to pick it up and was wondering if there were any differences between my 89' shortblock and the 85'.
