Hey, The combo switch in the steering column of my '87 Justy went out, which is preventing the indicator stalk from returning to it's original position and (more annoyingly) has stopped the horn from working (hey, I drive like a Bostonian, and the horn is essential. It's killing me to drive silently). The price of the part is $165 from Subaru, which is fine, but the labour to put it in is an additional $270! That's outrageous to me! Does anyone know how easy it is to put one in or if places like Pep Boys or local repair shops can typically do it? Silence is not golden! ;D

No, a boxer will not fit in a Justy.

If it is the thing I believe you're talking about, you will have to remove the steering wheel. Two screws on the back of the wheel are your only tough obstacles and after you remove the middle pad of the steering wheel, you will need to remove a large center nut to remove the wheel completely. After that, it's self explanatory.

Hi gang....first post for me.
I'm have the same problem with the 92 DL that I inherited from my dad, and I just can't figure out how to get the steering wheel off. There are no access holes on the back of the wheel cover. I tried to see if the horn pad would peel off, but I didn't want to break anything.
I was able to take the lower column cover off, but that didn't help much.
Is there a trick to prying off the back cover on the steering wheel to get to those bolts?

all you need to do is jam a screwdriver under the horn cover and giver.

onsk8:
cautious question, but I'll ask.
Should I be prying off the back cover or the front one (horn pad)? Better safe, than sorry, and needing more parts!

the horn pad with the subaru emblem. just sit in the seat and put the screwdriver in from the right or left side and pry off. Then you will be able to get the steering wheel off by means of the big nut in the middle.
