A while back, had lost the ability to shift - the linkage came 'unhooked', leaving the gear knob/selector a 'zero speed' with a two foot 'long shift' circle pattern! I temporarily attached the 'selector rod end' to the 'cup' with a small weld. This worked fairly well, but made the gear selection pattern a little 'long' and seemed to increase the famous 'gear knob rattle'! As of yesterday, its loose again! I am not sure but think that the hook was originally held in place by a 'donut bushing of some sort??? (found half what was left of a circular-ish rubber bushing near where I originally lost the ability to shift, the other half hanging out of the shift linkage underneath)... See diagram and pic attached: ANY IDEAS?!? Part number of bushing?!?   Thanks,

I think that you also lost a kint of "box" that holds the bushing.
In my Justy that Bushing is inside a kind of box, like a kind o cage.
Do you remove this cage???

It is hard to say exactly how the 'selector rod end' fits in the cup as I have no comparison . Seems like there might have been a bushing or as you say justycr, maybe even a cage/box? I've included another diagram here... if anyone has the actual exploded diagram of the shift linkage that would be fantastic! (It popped out again at a traffic light intersection last night! ) Thanks again...

Stacks, You may have a deal ... matter of fact, I'll PayPal you a $5 spot in good faith if you could snap a pic of that set-up (specifically the 'cup' area)! Right now I'm working with wire ties and two hands full of 20 year old grease! BTW, how'd you remove it in the first place?? Standing by,

I have a factory manual with that exploded diagram. I am unsure how to post the pix but will try.

Lety's try this. It sounds like you have lost/broken item #47,, lock-ring, that holds everything in place. Let me know what part # you think you need & I'll get correct factory part # for you. I once ordered all those parts , from " Subiegal", & they were not expensive

HOLY GEEZ! Nice one Esteban! Thanks. What book is that?!? Gotta get me one! From looking at the exploded diagram (and stack's *thanks* pics - might still go with the assembly as well, stacks) seems like I'm missing ALOT!... 50, 51, 9, 40, 47, (2) 48s, 49! Right now I've replaced these bits with 3 Zip Ties (allowing for 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear only!!) The exploded view doesn't show the protective boot as per stacks rockin' pics (below) do...   You guys have a couch, beers/rootbeers, garage space, and tools any time you need if you're in NY!!! ;D Sincerely,

That's from Subaru Justy Parts Catalog,, '87-'94. Cat. # EJU4-11. If you are missing all those parts you listed, the gears will NEVER shift right.You can go to Subary parts link & had posted above, & type in the Subaru parts #'s I list. Subiegal has the best prices I have ever seen. from diagram; # 50 = Part # 733146310=Bush # 51 = " " 051904220=Pin # 9 = " " 733138000=Dust seal [ '87 & '88 " = " " 733144070= " " [ '89-'94 ] #40 = " " 099910100= Lockwire [ '87 & '88] " " " 099910140 ' " [ '89-'94] #47 = " " 031432000= clip snap ring [ 89-94] #48 = " " 062620280=O Ring [ need 2 ] [89-94] #49 = " " 35035KA010= Bush-B [ 89-94] Note, for '87 & 88 years, see window at right corner] Note= item 51 is a neoprene bushing, sets in the " cup" on shifter linkage. Lather some grease in that cup!! NOTE= Items #38 & 8, in other end of linkage. If these items are worn, shifting will be sloppy, w/gearstick wobbling back & forth. Their part number; # 8 Part # 633011330 Bushing [ need 2 at each end of both shifter rods #38= # 733146120 Bushing
NO, NO manual is NOT for sale, at least right now.
