has anyone atempted shaving the head on one of these engines to increase compression. If so how much have you shaved off/ how far can you go before valves start to hit the pistons? I've heard on one other engine (not subaru) that upwards of .100 of an inch could be removed before interference would become a problem. Any input would be great.

you can take tons off... like mm's... I have about 1.4 off and I'm only at 10.~:1 comp. Tons of valve clearance left. I'm planning to go to a copper head gasket next so I'll be in the -2 mm range. Time to start thinking about cam timing.
