I am in the middle of rebuilding a 1988 subaru Justy 3 door for my brother, I bought the car for $100 and it blew the head gasket on my way home from upper michigan. Well I have the engine all torn down and I got the new head gasket, but I cant find the torque specs anywhere.. How tight do I torque the head bolts? and in what order?? I could use some help on this one.

Oaky I'm a bit of a twit on this stuff... and my books at the shop...
who really cares about exact sequance.. start in the middle, go side to side and work you way out... Start at like 20lbs, and work you way up three time to 70 lbs (is close if I recall to spec) 20-40-55-70 then back them off in reverse (about a 45-90 degree turn with the wrench) and then re tighten to 70lbs... spit on the head and call it done.
Somebody will tromp on me for that... but seems to work.

This engine is going to see some very hard use.. I would like to be sure I am using the correct torque on those bolts, (just in case).

Called the local parts store... Specs. out of the Chilton... bolt pattern... 5137 8426 first tighten to 29ftlb in sequence then tighten to 54ftlb in sequence next loosen all bolts 90 degrees retighten all bolts opposite sequence to 51-57ftlb done...
I have thought of going a little tighter if that might make it stronger. but I am not sure if its a good Idea...anyone know??
