Whats up..
do any of you know if there is a way to lock the rear diff?
I had an old justy (1987), and for some reason when I went into 4WD the rear diff acted as if it was locked...
The thing drifted like crazy... but my newer justy (1992) didn't drift at all...
can anyone tell me if the old diffs locked? or was there something with the diff in the old one?
But when the 1987 was in 2wd mode, the rear diff seemd to be unlocked.
Thanks

Did the car drift because the rears seemed locked or did it perhaps drift because of tire size difference between front and rear? As the 4WD does not have a centre diff, when locked, if you have a tire size issue... the car will handle funny (one set will be slipping even before you turn...)
to my knowledge Justys did not come with LSD rears... someone might have frankensteined one in... but I don't believe that they came stock.... if anybody thinks they did.. please let me know, because that would be AWSOME for our Production class rally car....

Hey Matt. go find an RX.
They came with a rear LSD, They use the same diff. I haven't actually checked the splines and all that crap. but i think they will bolt right in. They are both the R160 unit.
and NO you can't have the one outta my rally car

I have a rear LSD out of an '85 RX and it is NOT a bolt in item. The snout is way longer and the entire unit mounts differently than the one in the Justy. Internally they are close to the same (same splines, gear ratio, ect.) but the RX unit has larger bearings. Some day when I have a little free time I want to see if I can get the RX center section to fit into the Justy housing. The support bearings will be the biggest problem I think.
Has anyone else attempted this before?

Do-it
Unfortunatly... only you big boys in P4 can install limited slip or locked diffs if not stock...., us less mighty P1's are stuck with what we have got.... And I actually sent off my support of keeping it that way... Stupid bugger....we'll see what entails,... I do like the idea of keeping P1 cheap, and keeping the car close to stock helps... but with Pierce Neige on the horizon... and the prospect of trying to back out of snow drifts.... I wish I could stick one in.. oh well, two wheel drive is beter then one I guess...

phfft.. the only way to tell is the sticker on the rear of it. Half of them pealed off ages ago. Just don't spin the tires when the rear end is in the air and you won't have a problem. Someone who actually wants to put up the money (which is more than a justy) to actually protest you...well...they just need to learn to drive faster. not that i encourage cheating or anything
