I hope to have it running as soon as I get that engine in all the way. Then get everything else hooked up. I also need to put the dash and heater core back in. I had the heater core and the radiator cleaned out and pressure checked. So I hope those hold up well when I start to use them.
As for my internet I have High speed the problem is my router likes to act up and needs to be reset every so often, I use a wireless system and this gets a little interference.

There's no rust on my Justy's engine because a fine layer of oil protects the parts. OK, maybe the layer isn't so fine... I think Subaru was brilliant when they put the self-oiling system in place, kinda like British cars: let the engine shoot oil all over itself and the chassis to protect everything from rust. Awesome & inspirational work, Coal. Keep us posted!

Let's see, did I leave anything out? What the fuсk does stainless steels' properties have to do with this topic!?!?! As a classically trained metal crafter and presently a maker of surgeon's micro tools, I am quite aware that stainless is usually non-magnetic but did you know that there are grades of stainless that are magnetic? Yes there are. Somebody shoot me (or him)

Show me a photo of a Justy valve cover that has rusted JG and stop changing the subject. When you get busted, you're busted.

Looks very nice! I had to chuckle seeing the engine stand configuration in order to bolt up to the little Justy block, I remember when I did mine...in fact my original engine is on my stand even now. Kinda wish I had an aluminum valve cover compared to the later plastic ones. Hope you get it all mated up and running soon.

So Coal, what inspired you to undertake this rebuild I haven't read enough posts to know why you dove into it. Was it low oil pressure issues? Oil leakage? Rod bearings and oil pump seem to be the 'Achilles heel' of the Justy . The photos of your oil pump inner and outer rotor don't indicate THAT much wear...was the housing bore enlarged?? The pump cover?? I suppose it doesn't take much internal wear to cause lower pressure. Good luck...it's looking better!!

This started out innocently enough. At first I had a horendus exhaust leak, So I stopped driving the Justy. I got in to the garage, while I was under the car I noticed the oil leak and I figured it was coming from the oil pan so I pulled that off. Then I realized it was really probally leaking from the oil pump cover or the head gasket or other places so I statred to attack those then it just snow balled in to a point of no return that if I have gone this far I might as well pull the whole thing get it machined a bit and cleaned up and have the head rebuit and now we are at the point of trying to put it back in. Thats pretty much it in a nutshell.

I've got a 1968 American Motors 2 seater AMX # 4155 of 6725 built that year. The car has not run in 18 years ( Long Story ) but has spent ALL but 3 days of those 18 years in closed storage. The car looks just as it did when I bought it in 1983. My closest friends are begging me to do a complete mechanical resto and drive/show the car but... I know that a mechanical resto will lead to a full rotisserie resto 2 days after I start working on the damn thing! Reality... I got 2 kids that need to go to college so, sadly my X will stay in storage for another 5-10 years . Congrats on all the hard work!! The Lil Justy should be purring like a kitten in no time! WAIT... I forgot its a Justy... They don't purr, they Shake Rattle and Roll! ;D Good Luck! Jim

So was yours all catwampus like mine when it was mounted. Pretty much. I can't remember exactly how I had it but since the stand is generic for even V8's I don't think they ever imagined such a small engine on it! It took a little figuring to get it bolted up to the stand but worked like a charm, at first I thought oh oh...this isn't going to work. Someday I should tear apart the original motor to see if it's salvageable.

SubieJim, AMX, sweet! I had an Eagle wagon at one point, always wanted an AMX, but never came across the right deal. I would also like to find a nice SX4 (not the suzuki, but the AMC version!).

This is a question for those who know and have changed the clutch before. Is my pilot bearing installed correctly?

My concern was the bearing has a recessed side. I was really unsure if that side was supposed to be facing the tranny.
Thanks Stacks. Coal.

Hey coal- Did you have your flywheel reground? Looks in pretty good shape. How about your clutch plate and disc...were they in good condition?? I haven't heard much on this forum about bad clutches in Justys...mine is still going strong after 150,000 miles . Of course, I am really easy on clutches...I don't think I've ever had to replace one on any vehicle I've owned after 30 years of driving. You'd think with the Justy oil seal leaking problems , some clutches would get contaminated and worn out.

Yeah I had the flywheel resurfaced. Just the bare minimum to get some blemishes out and help give good clutch action. I installed a new clutch but I had to reuse the old preesure plate because the new one was was too big, I got the part on clearance so I am not too concerned.
