Whoa tiger!
SJ is a true voice of reason for folks who think they can, when they probably shouldn't (because it's beyond the skill set they have demonstrated, or so ridiculously expensive they should have bought an Impreza). I don't think he's ever condemned something, but if something is as stupid as it sounds, he'll point it out.
As for rally he was simply pointing out that true rally is MORE then racing, and is not driving like a goof on OPEN public roads. We’ve all been there, I owed a Supra, turbo MR2, turbo Supra, Turbo SAAB (among other high powered sports cars), but bragging about driving like a fool is stupid. TAKE it to the track, rally, rally cross, ice race or whatever, don’t do it where you could hurt someone that doesn’t want to be involved.
extremzj, you don't rally, please understand the significant difference between driving in a field in a street car vs. a real rally. Don’t get me wrong, Rallycross is a great way to develop driving skills. But touting that you are rallying makes you sound like a goof to those that have real stage experience. It’s akin to saying you are engineer when you’ve studied first year physics. I’ve tried to have patience with you but it’s wearing thin. Real “rally” is one of two types of events, the TSD or time speed distance, (which is were rally started) wherein you drive a open public road, typically in remote regions, following a set of directions (no map). Your time out is recorded, and suddenly you will come across a check point (if you’re not lost) where you in time will be recorded. Arrive to early and you will be penalized (typically in the rage of 1 minute for 10 seconds early), arrive too late and the same but the penalty is less (1 to 1). You odometer is checked and if it’s out penalty again. And so it continues…
Stage rally was developed out of this system in the 50’s (I think) and still uses the same premises as above with the exception of ‘Special Stages’ where yes, you get to drive as fast as you want/can on a closed road. The fastest stage time wins the stage, but coefficients can make that vary.
1. NO rally car would be permitted to run in any sanctioned STAGE RALLY event with the silly nitrous you say you have. (it’s not legal in the sport)
2. The car needs a cage (a real one)
3. Leaving a stage with tires squealing would garner some significant harassment if not disqualification from the organizers (of a real rally!), oh and see my above comment about your other surprisingly idiotic move with pedestrians on the street as you left the parking lot of your local night-time meet (what is it with the fast and the furious wannabes)
4. You need a passenger seat for that um what’s it called, un oh yeah … CO-driver.
5. A “heavily modded” engine means something more then a cone filter (in a stupid place by the way, please do consult a physics manual, and try understand something about pressure differential, as noted by several others). It generally refers to such modifications as windage ground cranks, modified crank throws, different cam profiles, etc. Any modification would place you in what class? Oh yeah right what class are you running in?
6. “nope. it was 121.” (extemzj sept 22,2008 in: How fast is your justy) With regards to how fast you were going… yeah right, not in a rally, certainly not in a rallycross. It would take a lot more power then a Justy can dish to do that.
I generally don’t get involved in the politics of forums, because it’s best to let the yappy dogs do their yapping until they fall asleep. But stirring up stuff like this is stupid. There are not a lot of Justies left, and not a lot of Justy owners here. Trying to evoke a division because you like to see your poorly typed words on the screen is not a good way to operate in a public space.
I apologize to the rest of the forum members for my tirade, but I felt like some toes that didn’t need being stepped on were just driven over. (What was the best line on that ice course by the way? Did you know what tires he’s running, what the traction was like on the ice vs. the snow, how cold was it? I know I couldn’t those things tell from the video)
Sincerely
Matt (not mad, just silly)
Not currently competing rallyista, hoping to return to the sport someday, maybe in Justy
