going to get the engine and trans back in this weekend... Soldered the wires back onto the old thermo sensor shown in the last post, swapped out the main bearing caps, put new seals on the fly wheel housing/cover, painted the oil pan(used RTV instead of a gasket), cleaned, drilled, tapped and painted the valve cover..... cracks in the valve cover... I used #10 24 X 1/2 in (#10 - 24 X 12.7 mm) flat head machine screw/bolt and a 5/32 in drill bit. the valve cover is only 10 mm thick at three spots near the oil cap, careful not to drill through the top like i did... the "rivets" used to attach the oil strainer are harder than the surrounding metal and caused the bit to wonder and the holes dont quite line up with the strainer... don't try to use self tapping screws, the tips can break off in the holes... Also sealed all the threads with thread lock...

let it warm up till the thermostat opened and was swapping out the sticking accelerator cable and coolant started to drain from the weep hole in the water pump. have a spare gasket, I'll have to pull the pump with the engine in.

Bummer about the water pump and having to do it in the car.
Glad to hear its running good other wise though thats awesome! Did you run it without the exhaust? I think they sound funny compared to 4 cyl and 6 cyl engines, its kinda like the flubber car lol.

re tightened the cylinder head, 4 of the bolts turned 1/4 - 1/2 a turn, so did the intake bolts.... opened up water pump and all the parts are there, might have chipped/cracked the the seal when i installed it, have to order new pump and gaskets and pull the crankcase cover...( don't use a screwdriver to install your new water pump seal...)

yes, it does. The help on here is awesome. what did you use to press in a new water pump seal? wont be able to do anymore work on it till Christmas holiday. Still need to set the timing and adjust the carburetor and i could use some advice on that... seems the section for servicing the a/c system is in another book... "(for idle speed adjustment, refer to the a/c manual)"...

Just got back on the boards...
I used a socket on my WP seal too. I just used the tightest fitting socket between my metric and standard sockets. I know you already have installed it but the biggest thing I have heard is to lubricate the seal with coolant before assembly, where the seal rotates.

got it running again and let the engine warm up, no leaks but none of the coolant in the radiator or hoses would get hot. i pulled the plug on the water pump, it was full of hot coolant...
