Hello all,
The story of this vehicle will continue to grow and be updated as time goes on, but for now I just want to post up what I have been working on for some time. I found this little Justy and was fortunate enough to become the proud owner. She is currently at 77K on the odometer and holds a clean title. The car runs and drives great, well other than the blown shock in the front, but overall she is a really strong running car.
The very first 24 hours that I had the car in my possession, I was able to gut the hack job stereo system and strip down the entire interior. Once the interior was stripped, the carpet, seats, and floor mats received a healthy shampooing. While the interior was drying, I took car wash soap and simple green, and then began to scrub the bare interior. The bare metal and plastic interior was in pretty decent condition, so cleaning the inside wasn't too difficult.
The second day that I had the vehicle I was able to fix the headlights by swapping out a couple relays, replacing some blown fuses and several bulbs. In addition to the head lights I also replaced a damaged climate control light. I swapped out the blinker stalk to prevent the turn signal stalk to always keep the tun signal on. The same day I was able to repair the rear deck lid with some epoxy, and I also found some square inserts for the deck lid lanyards. I also pulled out the heating system and removed the nest that had begun to form and blow out the vents.
The following day I drained all the nasty fluids and replaced with the appropriate type and qty. I changed out the battery, and cleaned up the trashed firewall wiring harness. I then replaced several power and ground leads to create the missing strong connections. I went through a bit of frustration trying to figure out why the previous owner used a trailer light harness for the distributor, but thanks to hollandjusty, my dizzy and check engine light are pretty happy now. I also went through and replaced my plugs, wires, intake filter.
The previous owner decided it would be a good idea and throw on some random ebay coils onthe front and cut the rear springs on the car. I couldn't really live with the way that the car drove and handled, so I replaced the springs with new OEM components along with several bushings.
Throughout the entirety of all the repairs the car lived in the garage and didn't receive a full exterior wash until the vehicle was road worthy. After it was taken on the test drive, I decided that it was time to giver her a wash down. After a washing, the clay bar was applied, then a mild rubbing compound. I do have to say, at this time I really couldn't believe how much the car shined and gleamed in the sun. I was overall pretty impressed with the outcome.
After the washing, I took the vehicle to the smog shop, and she passed with flying colors. Following the smog, I took it down to the DMV and made it official with the plates. The 10+ month hunt was over and I had my Justy. Since then I have purchased a dash kit and installed a radio done some minor work to the vehicle.
My DIY mods to date are the STi pitch mount, and STi Radiator cap.
My future plans are to replace the driver side cv joint and the passenger side shock. I will be installing my 14 x 6 Bridgestone R-4s once my current tires begin to dwindle. I am also looking to find a OEM clock, radio with pigtail, roof rack, rear mid hatch trim.
