Hey, anybody know if there's room to change the oil pump with the motor still in the car?
New used block.. with dangerously low oil pressure...

The moving parts of the oil pump are very easy to replace in the car. If you're also changing out the aluminum housing that too can be done in the car, but it's a little bit more work. The alt. belt and crank pulley need to come off to remove the oil pump cover. It would also be a good idea to drop the pan and check out the rod bearing clearances. Nearly every Justy engine I've had apart has had worn bearings. Just a though...

Yeah. What he said. It's kind of a mid-major job if you're like me. I did it last summer. It took me a while, but I'm not too quick. If you can get a used alum. housing that's in decent shape; that would be good. In any case, the pump gear with shaft is the most important thing. If you can't find a housing, you might be able to get by with just the gear and shaft. Justy4X4 is right about the bearings though. It's a fun little engine to work on. Good Luck.

Thanks guys.
I have a whole other block with a pump that was running 30 plus, so I should be able to swap the whole thing over... any time estimates... not boasting, just putting in a time count... I can swap engines now in about 1-1.5 hours..., should this job take over 1.5-2 hours? (gotta plan what I'm doing tomorrow)
thanks

P.S.
I really don't care about the rod ends on this motor... I'm doing up another with all new, oversized stuff... this is just a temp to last a 1000 km's or so

does anyone know anything about electric oil pumps? its something someone suggested to me to look into if i was to take my engine apart to fix this leak - "might as well get one of those and it will also free some power at the same time"
do you reakon its possible on this engine and would i need to make a new mount for it??
