Well, I knew my front right outer CV joint was going out, but it went ALL the way out yesterday. going gown the streed, shifted 2-3 and POP cruunnnnnnnch and the car didn't move anymore. so I engaged 4wd to power the rear wheels and drive into a nearby parking lot. Now I don't want to fix the car, because there are other things going wrong. transmission getting rougher, low oil pressure, etc etc, but I'd like to be able to drive it for a couple months until I can get myself a new car.
so here's my question. can I cut the front axles and wire the 4wd switch permanently on, and just have a RWD justy until I can get a new car, or would that cause some other problem? Would I even need to cut the axles, since the front is essentially disengaged anyway?
I'm not looking to do it right, just to have transportation for about 2 months.
Thanks, Tyler

Just drive it as is with the 4wd engaged. As long as that outer CV joint isn't making any threatening noises, it should be fine. I drove my VW Quantum Syncro for quite awhile with the exact same problem and had no troubles at all.

RW drive justy's are FUNNN!!!!!
in a rally we ad the same problem....i wasent 100% shure if we were rear wheel drive untill we hit a airpine ;D ooomama the rear end was wigeling like a dragster haha!!
unfortunatly....after 20 or so km of reving the hell out of it.... the transmision died.....im shure it can last long on regular driving....but this was a serious beating....and also our tranny was the original one....20+ rally and a regular life before...so..she was tirered...

hehe awesome. so I guess now I have a RWD justy until I can get a little pickup or another subie or something... or maybe a jeep cherokee... where I live 4wd in the winter is 100% MANDATORY and a rwd justy wouldn't handle too well in the snow... floored in 2nd around an uphill corner on gravel it was all I could do to keep the front wheels in the front! ;D
hhee well I guess I have a pretty fun car for a couple months... people aren't going to believe it when a justy pulls up beside them at a stop light and does a rear wheel peel:D:D

so.... removing both front axles will allow the justy to fuction as if a rwd? I would think it would just send all the power to the fronts and go nowhere.

The Justy doesn't have a center differential like some of the bigger Subaru's. When 4wd is engaged, the torque split is exactly 50/50 no matter what. This is also why it's not good to drive on pavement with 4wd engaged as the different axle speeds when turning will cause driveline windup.
