Hey guys, I bought a 1990 Subaru Justy and this will be my first ever build. I got the car for $180 off of FB market place (quite a steal but not for the work). He ended up gutting the car and getting it ready for an engine reseal and a transmission rebuild so all of the mechanical parts are out of the car except for the parts that connect the wheels. I was looking at buying an original justy manual to try and rebuild the engine, although thoughts of doing an engine swap has crossed my mind since the engine was given to me in pieces and I have no clue how it goes together nor the torque ratings. Pretty much just looking for some advice, given I am a rookie, I will try to understand. I'm working on body work and rust repair for the time being so I have some time to decide if I want to do a swap or not, but I am open to hearing about other engines you guys swapped out with that weren't entirely difficult (Like bay extension or relocating stuff to the trunk, like that one Justang article I read). Thanks

As far as I know no other engine will fit without major modifying . The service manual is available to download from the troubleshooting section. it will walk you through the engine rebuild and give you proper torque specs . Bring the head and block to a engine machine shop to have them decked, honed, and the valves seated . parts and gaskets are available on rock auto and from Subaru dealerships . the chain guide I had to get from AutoZone (they had it listed as timing chain guide). Use engine assembly lube on all moving parts. get new oil pump sprockets and if the shaft fits loosely at all in the front cover you will need a new front cover or you will have low oil pressure. It's a fairly easy engine to work on . Have fun
