Hi all! I've been lurking around here for a while and am excited to join the community.
I just picked up a 1990 GL 2-door in Coeur D'alene, ID and drove it to my current residence in Helena, MT this afternoon. Passed several fishtailing trucks on the snowy climb over the Continental Divide at MacDonald Pass - this car is so rad!
My family had the same car in blue when I was a kid and I've been looking for one for a couple of years now. Saw it on CL a few weeks ago near my hometown of Moscow, ID and had my parents pick it up because I couldn't make it over until this weekend. Guy I bought it from claims 54K miles and it might be true; pedals have minimal wear, doors open and close effortlessly, and it is good shape overall. If Justine (too cliche?) has 154K she was very well taken care of.
PO put three 155/78R13's winter tires and one 155/80R13 all season on it so I had my dad put on 165/70R13's all seasons. If anyone wants the old tires let me know - they are in ID.
Wasn't expecting strong-arm power steering but I love how simple this car is. Something squeaks just behind the steering wheel when making sharp turns at low speed. Its slightly annoying but nothing more.
Installed Yakima crossbars and a RhinoRack bike rack immediately after getting home. The bike rack is longer than the roof of the car! It extends over the windshield and blocks the hatchback from opening all the way. Can't wait for this put the mountain bike on top and drive to dry trails next month.
Fuel level indicator seems to be unpredictable below half a tank. I was waiting for the (non-existent) gas light to come on when she started sputtering a couple of miles from the Drummond, MT exit. Made it fine and put 8.4 gallons in... No more sputtering after topping off. Could it be related?
The fuel door lock is a PITA. It sticks and sticks and sticks and then just works when I start to panic. I'll ask the locksmith at work about it tomorrow. I see lots of folks take the door off altogether, but would rather keep it if there is a simple fix.
More pictures when spring finally comes to Montana and I can giver her a wash.</attachment>
