Hello all. I have just gotten done rebuilding the top end of my beloved justy, currently it is all put back together and cranks over but doesnt sound right, faster than normal, in the engine bay it sounds as if it is coming from the starter, i removed the starter and the teeth are still intact on the flywheel and starter just a tad worn but still enough meet to securely mate together. Has anyone had issues with the starter engaging into the flywheel? This is the first time i ever had any issues with the starter on this car, another suspicion of mine was of course compression, but turning over the crank be hand with the valve cover off i can hear the compression and or vacuum when the valves open and close, i have triple checked the timing but now i am wondering if its the valve lash adjustments that could be out of whack. I most definitely smell fuel and have checked for ignition which i have and was set to the same degree of timing on the distributor as it was previously set at. So the big 4 things of suck, squeeze, bang, blow. I have checked and can only figure either the suck for starter, or the squeeze for compression... Thoughts are very welcome!

Sounds like camshaft timing to me.
You set the cam with the notch up and cyl #3 compression?

Wow how embarrassing... Well for those who dont know the cam drive sprocket can go on backwards and sets the timing mark off by about 70 degrees... That was my issue. Got her started running a bit rough but some fine tuning to the ignition timing/ throttle body adjustment and she should run fine, oh and bleed the coolant system. Thanks for your input as it was the cam timing.

Thanks for your input as it was the cam timing. Once again... Terry nails it!
