It recently started getting chilly here and all of the sudden my tach and then my speedometer started making grinding noises, the tach stopped making noises but now the speedo makes them constantly, I haven't tried driving long enough to get them to warm up because it sounds like i'm damaging something. I've had people recommend adjusting or lubricating the speedo cable but i'm not sure how to do this. Do you guys have any pointers or advice?
Thank you.

If its the cable the typical procedure would be to pull the cable out of the sheath on one end wipe the cable down several times in a clothe covered in brake cleaner, carb cleaner, lacquer thinner until clean and spray carb or brake cleaner through the sheath followed by compressed air until clean then lube the cable with grease and reinstall.
Though it sounds like your problem may be in the cluster itself, I have read of it before here but have not experienced it personally. I can't remember how they resolved it but the answer IS here.
Edit: a sticky cable will typically result in a jumpy speedo, tach is electronic in these cars from what i know.

Using brake cleaner on the cable isn't the best idea. Some of them have a plastic coating that I wouldn't want to compromise. Degreaser should work though.
You are correct, cable problems usually result in a jumpy speedo followed by a non functioning speedo when the cable brakes.
I'd say pull out the cluster and see if you can find any problems. Worst case scenario you can leave the cable disconnected and go without a speedo until you can find a better solution.
