1990 1.2l mfi 5 door gl Ok finally got everything together and running, only problem I'm stuck on is, on cold start I get a strong fuel smell. I'm assuming it's just running super rich, as I can't get better than 27mpg. Have replaced one temp sensor on intake already, because the fan wouldn't kick on, I think o2 sensOr is new, as I found the box in the car. Does anyone have any ideas?

Well there is an intake temp sensor. It tells the ecu to make it fat rich when it is like 30 below zero, it is plugged into the side of the aircleaner airbox.

This justy has cold air intake, and that part is just hanging out in the engine compartment. I will try to install it in the intake tube tomorrow, see if that makes a difference. I'm guessing it can't be to many different parts choices, as the system in this car is pretty simple.

Tested more stuff this weekend and found the thermo sensor in the intake manifold was bad, also the TPS sensor was not adjusted properly. The big problem I found was the distributor (which is adjustable), was at the bottom of adjustment. So I got out the old timing light, and the timing was over 40 degrees off, I don't know how the thing even ran. I retimed to +5 degrees, and of course had to adjust the idle, the distributor is now about in the middle of the adjustment (sounds more right). I will post again in a week or so if I see improved mpg.

Finally got it, last two tanks at 35mpg. Should have checked the valve adjustment earlier, adjusters were cranked so tight that it took about 6 turns to release the pressure off of the valve springs(amazing it even ran). Huge power difference and idles smoothly, now onto paint and body!!
