When I bought the Justy the previous owner said it had an oil leak, which he had cured by changing the rocker cover gasket. I appear to still have the same or another oil leak. It does appear to come from around the head, but there is no water contamination or smoke from the exhaust. I gave the engine a wash down and retorqued the heads and the problem still persists. The oil seems to go onto the front exhaust manifold, so it it always smoking and difficult to see without removing the manifold.... Some pictures It appears to be a nice car to work on as everything is easily accesible..

see all that oil on the "low side" of the head with the valve cover off? thats whats leaking. the valve cover gasket. oil ABOVE where the head gasket actually is can only really be one thing.
get a new VC gasket, clean the mating surface really well and use some RTV inside the VC itself to help it seal and at all corners. i had the same issue.

Thanks sp0ngebob, the oil isnt' coming from the rocker cover the previous owner changed the gasket, which I confirmed, the oil shown was just residue from me removing the rocker cover. I've taken some more shots, with the rocker un disturbed. Oil has leaked out over the weekend too. I think I'll have to set some time aside to do a more in depth investigation...

your transmission is clean and the pool is on the passanger side. if youre positive that its not a rocker/valve cover gasket...which to me, if you have to take it off anyways, and its only 8 bucks to replace why not put a new one in???...then id suspect a cam seal. thats the only other thing above the head gasket that could potentially leak onto the exhaust manifold.

Even though your previous owner replaced that rubber valve cover gasket, it may still be leaking from there... is there evidence of oil just below it? The reason I ask, is it's not the gasket that gives out normally, but in fact the little rubber bush/washers that hold the cover on! The bolts are shouldered so you don't over squeeze that gasket, and the little rubber buttons on the "washers" wear out, so even when tight, there is not enough pressure to seal it. Throw a couple flat washers under the bolt heads... or get new "buttons" But that's only if there is oil on the top portion of the head. The Head gasket may be leaking oil, and still holding cylinder pressure, and the cam seal is known to go leaky leaky all over the place. You also have a lot of oil far left (from the oil on the ground) and the from main leaks like a sieve too... Pressure wash it well, and start looking for the drips.

I've taken some more shots, with the rocker un disturbed. ooohhh... That head gasket looks pretty soaked... Pressure washer for sure, and then watch. I think you're looking to do a refresh...

I have a similar issue with oil leaking out faster than i can wipe it up while it idles! I recently started using "heavy duty 15W-40 oil" from O'reileys. they say it's for diesels. I used it because i was leaking so badly that i couldn't afford to keep pouring $3.50 a quart oil into it. since that switch, it has gotten worse than ever. is it possible that this 'diesel' oil has made things worse? It seems crazy, but I'm askin' anyway.
I have loosened the timing belt covers so I can look behind around the cam while it runs. it doesn't seem to be leaking there. i gunked the motor good, and think it is just pouring out from the head gasket at the cam drive side.
I thought maybe a re-torque of the head bolts would save the day, but i couldn't budge them in the tighter direction. so I thought I would loosen them the recommended 90 degrees, and come up from there. i couldn't move them in the looser direction either, and that with a 15 inch breaker bar! I thought it time to get some advice from you guys who have been there before.
She runs like a top. Starts good and quick. i think the PSI was about 165-175 cold about a year ago.
Why this oil leaking? anything to do besides a head gasket job? How to move those bolts and try a re-torque?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks
henry

Can you post some pics?
The oil feed to the head (through the head gasket) is on the distributor side...
By "Cam drive"do you mean the side with the belt? typical leak points are the cam cover gasket...
But there are many other leak points.
