My rebuild is coming along pretty decent, besides a few hiccups but my new problem is this when I crank the key over to start it's spraying gas out of top of carb. My only thinking is I got the valves too far open somehow and it's forcing it out or my vaccuum lines are way off kinda stuck and need some advice if any one could help

sounds like a stuck float valve.

So I'm gonna be taking out the carb and rebuilding that?

should be a window on the side of the carburetor you can see if the bowl is filling/full. you have any pictures? where exactly is the gas coming from?

I can't see inside the window really, I'm not 100% sure if it's spraying out of the tube that is angles up since I'm the only person working on it, since I didn't rebuild the carb but everything else has been done it could be like someone said above and the float chamber is stuck I'll work on opening up a photobucket and uploading a some pictures

Gas spraying out the carb is almost always a timing issue or a valve issue.

I was thinking it was a intake valve not properly seated or opened too far so it's forcing air out

Yea, timing or firing order.

I thought I had it right there's only one way to put on the cranks and the top dot lines up with the line and the key way should be facing up/the ru with the line lined up with the dot and the distributor only goes on one way or it's 180 off but the rotor is facing the #1 plug
Isn't the firing order 1 next to the timing belt 2 middle 3 to the distributor and the rotor/plugs are 1 facing towards the firewall 2 down at the ground and 3 towards the grill

Timing was way off on the crank I think it moved when I was tightening the timing belt. But now that it's started I got a huge vacuum leak coming from the carb. And I noticed that there is gas leaking out of the side where the carb meets the intake on the side where the choke is.
Would I have to pull the carb off and lay another gasket down or is there a silicone I can use to hold it until I swap carbs? I read somewhere on a thread saying rtv is not what I want to use since the gas won't mix well

I wouldn't recommend any kind of silicone, either copy the old gaskets on to gasket paper or buy new ones if they are available.

I was just thinking on the side cause there is a kinda screech like the belt is loose but it's coming from the carb area and I was thinking it was a leak any idea what it could possibly be? My dad says it's a bad vacuum leak but I plugged it all up besides by the leak where the carb meets the intake

It is coming from the carb to the intake I put a layer of ultimate grey gasket maker said it was resistant to gas not to fix it but to pin point where the noise is coming from I only applied it on the outside where it meets. Now I need to buy new gasket for it
Is it possible to buy a new rubber spacer that goes between the 2 or do I really even need that?

Yes you need that black part, however it's plastic not rubber so it can be cleaned and reused, unless it's cracked or something Good job finding the leak. Another way to find them is spray water around where you think the leak is and see if the engine reacts by stumbling, then you have an idea of where it is.

Thanks that's a good idea I've never even thought of that. I'm just stoked that it is running again it's been a long time since I've seen it ran. When I bought it it only ran on one cylinder. Do you believe dusty justy has that you can order? Or is it something I can drill out of 1/4" plastic?

...Do you believe dusty justy has that you can order? Or is it something I can drill out of 1/4" plastic? It's called a phenolic spacer. It's not exactly plastic. Your best best is a junkyard. Dusty's Justys may have them, or you might try a dealer or OEM parts supplier. The Subaru GL from '85-'89 used the same one, so you might be able to find one for that car more easily.

I found some gasket cork paper hopefully it's just needs a gasket.
Then I only have to repack my cvs and drive it
But I did noticed that the spedo is going up at idle like it's actually driving but the half shafts are out any idea why? It's in nutural.
