So the van died on the highway (conveniently close to an offramp) and apparently the timing belt's snapped. 95,000km, so not unreasonable. The Domingo engine bay is pretty cramped, so I fear the engine has to be dropped to do the service. And if the engine's dropped, what are the odds of something new breaking at the same time (like the exhaust?) RockAuto claims the Domingo's EF12 engine has a 91 tooth timing belt (rather than the Justy's 89). So parts will be a week's shipping away. Question is: fix it or scrap it?

Fix it!... Or if it's an EFI-engine, sell it to me... If you have the parts of the old belt left, just put em together and count the cogs. Also, replace the tensioner straight away of course.

if it's an EFI-engine, sell it to me... I know a guy who has one left over from an Electric Vehicle-conversion... If I get the belt done, I'll buy the tensioner, water pump kit, and crankshaft/camshaft seals. Do I need a replacement exhaust manifold or valve cover gasket too?

If I get the belt done, I'll buy the tensioner, water pump kit, and crankshaft/camshaft seals. Do I need a replacement exhaust manifold or valve cover gasket too? If you're gonna change all that you're gonna have to drop the engine out. Doesn't take to much time, and it's actually quite easy.

Are you serious? Where is this engine located? Montreal, Quebec. PM me here or on the Minitrucktalk.com forums and I'll put you in touch with Franck. If you're gonna change all that you're gonna have to drop the engine out. Doesn't take to much time, and it's actually quite easy. TELL ME MORE. Has anyone written the service up? Do I have to disconnect - The exhaust manifold?
- The rear CV joints?
- The 4wd driveshaft?
- The A/C lines?
- Anything else screw-up-able?

Well, as I can't imagine that the removal of the engine ASSY would be much different from the gen1 domingo, I'll just do this: - The exhaust manifold?
- The rear CV joints?
- The 4wd driveshaft?
- The A/C lines?
- Anything else screw-up-able?
I've only done an engine replacement on my 1st gen Subaru Domingo/Sambar/Columbuss/whatever-more-names-it-has, but I think the procedure is pretty much straight on.

Followup: I paid Peter's Garage (Toronto, ON) to do the work, using parts ordered from Rexbo.eu. Great success, and the van has run fine since.
