It has been done before, but it is a ton of work and you better have some damn good fab skills and a BIG pocket book. You'd need the full STI drive train, engine, trans, diff, plus the harnesses, pedals and ecu to make it all work. Then you need to customize the justy to make it all fit. Suspension, tub it so the wheels fit, custom custom axles and drive shaft, sub frames front and rear, along with a full roll cage to tie it all together and stop the justy from turning into a pretzel when you touch the go pedal.

Krehm,
I'm just going to go one step further...
You asked questions that to me say you need to do a ton more research on the platform to start with. There is practically no similarity between the cars. Transverse engine in the justy vs longitudinal in the Impreza.
It can of course be done, but you are into a major engineering project including steering components, driveline, and cooling system fitting (there's not enough room in the current engine bay for the motor and the rad to fit...
And then the electronics to make it run.

Build a small STI car and bolt the Justy body to it. You will have to move the firewall back and hammer a tunnel for the transmission. The Justy is made of tin, so that shouldn't be a problem. You might even have to push the front end out a bit for proper axle-wheel well alignment. As Dave mentioned, you will need a full cage because you would essentially be bolting a tin box to STI gear. It would be a fun little car but you would want to do it right and safe.

I want to swap engines but not with sti. I just want to use a forester 4 cyl awd. Possibly turbo a ways down the road. Will it be just a difficult as swapping for a sti setup?
