Anyone know how to adjust the ignition timing on the 10EF ?

I think mine has to be way off, since the factory top speed is supposed to be 145 kph, and mine can only do about 120.... that' a LOT....

Never mind, I found it on my hood, 5 degrees past tdc

santaclawSo did you try any test runs after advancing? My EF10 maxed out at ~150kph. I don't know the set timing value.

I've ordered a timing lamp. I THINK you set it by loosening the nut under the distributor, and twisting it ?

santaclawSo did you try any test runs after advancing? My EF10 maxed out at ~150kph. I don't know the set timing value. Was that using a gps or the speedo? because mine can barely do 120 kph on the gps, roughly 130 something on the speedo... I am just assuming that there is something wrong with the ignition adv because of my car's low top speed.

That was with the speedometer, I didn't check it on GPS. The tires are 165/70/13
I think it's enough for the EF10 already

I had stock tires... 145/SR/12

I had stock tires... 145/SR/12 So theoretically, car would actually run faster than the speedo which is determined from the transmission. So I might actually be even a bit faster than this. It's just that I'm not sure if EF10 in GenII originally came with 12 or 13in wheels, because EF10 in GenI & GenII is the same w.r.t. engine, transmission & even the speedo. no, because my speedo is more than 10% of, you are probably running about 7-10kph under at 150kph

hmmmmm.... this is turning out to be an interesting comparison. Maybe @ferox could enlighten us a bit I'll try to get a comparison with the GPS too.

Unless you have tuned your car, I seriously doubt that it has gained power since new...
I changed my HT leads today, did all 4 as a kit, both between coil & distributor and distributor\spark plugs.
That actually made quite a difference, but that's probably because I had a mix of old and new ones on there already. It seems like I got more low end power now.. It SEEMS, I'll have to wait until the ground freezes over to see if the rear end comes out more easily. It idles noticably better anyway.

well it(the ignition) was way WAY off. probably about 30 degrees... With the correct timing adv the engine really goes...... setting the timing is easy, just connect the timing light to the battery and the number 1 spark plug wire, have the engine idle, aim the timing light at the engine pulley, it's marked with 0-5-10-15 degrees, loosen the 12mm bolt under the distrubutor and twist it until the line on the cambelt cover lines up with the 5 degree mark on the pulley.

If your ignition timing was out by a mile then there is a good chance your timing belt may be set incorrectly.. Either that or at one point someone timed the distributor while the camshaft was out, then fixed the timing belt and never reset the timing.
I always recommend you set the valves on these engines, it makes a world of difference if they're out even a little bit. I couldn't believe the difference mine made.

Thanx for the feedback, I really appreciate it.
I hit the marks when I did the timing belt, that's 100% guaranteed. Set the valves ? I've checked their clearance, twice if that what you mean....
Two problems, now it idles way low compared to before, it used to idle at roughly 1050 rpm, now it idles at closer to 700 ? It's supposed to idle at 800?
There is a delay, if it's idling, and I floor it, it dies a tad before coming to life. however it pulls a LOT stronger, with some torque at low rpm's..
That is also true if I go from no gas to full gas in 1-2 gear..
It feels smooth when driving 70-80 kph in 3-4-5'th gear....
I'm thinking there is a problem with the carb ?

That sounds like the accelerator pump is not working properly, and I think you could have idle issues with a bad accelerator pump. Terry

How do I check\fix that ?
There is a long arm thingy that squirts a little bit of gasoline into the carb if I depress it ?

Yes that is it.. It's like a plunger on the in side of the carb. You need to get a carburetor kit and replace it.
