my 88 wont rev past 2k if you lightly push the gas it will rev to 2500 rpm. it was running and driving fine then all the sudden this. i rebuilt the carb. traced all the wires. fuel pump, fuel filter. plugs wires coil. im out of ideas please help!!! and timing is right.

It's common for the duty solenoid to break. It's located inside the carb, looks like a golden thingy with a small nozzle at the bottom. May be tricky to replace though. :/

Yes with 2 wires. It is computer controlled and is used to changed the fuel mixture.
I would check your fuses, the carb PCM runs off the "STOP" fuse.
Do a compression test, check vacuum, your cam may be out of time.
If you have poor vacuum check the valves or the catalytic converter. Get some more information and I may be able to help more.

Most of my vacuums are eliminated. no emission laws in south dakota. I ordered a new carb it was cheaper than the part. fuses are good. pulled the cat off and started it without it no change. I also checked timing again and its on time. one thing i did notice though was when i got the car the throttle cable would spark on the firewall. Never figured out why either.

Where on the firewall does the sparks come from? If it's from the low-current part of the ignition coil, it would explain the rev-cut.
