Hmm, what happened to all the posts on my last thread?
never mind,
So I reassembled the transmission, including replacing the electromagnetic powder (which I mistakenly threw out not knowing what it was) and the drive shaft for the transmission oil pump which was bent from a previous repair that some other owner made.
I put the engine and transmission back in after working on it all day, and tried driving around the block, the car still would not "up-shift", and there is a horrible rubbing noise.
So the only thing left is the metal belt and pulleys (naturally that is the one thing I did not check)
Any other suggestions for me, I guess I have to take it all apart again?
waiting some wisdom,
thanks,
Elie

mine was doing the same thing. when i took it apart the bearing on the primary clutch had 3 balls missing and the cage that holds them in place was gone to explore better places deeper inside.
did you put the right type of Atf in? i have had it before where i have changed the trans fluid and when i pulled it out of the shop it was stuck in low until the pump was able to build up enough pressure. When i switched fluid types this went away.
when you say "reassembled" how far did you take it apart? is it possible you didn't get the gasket for the pump in the right position?
don't know if this is wisdom but its something.

It is making a noise when it drives and in neutral when coasting too. I put in the ATF that the too Subaru mechanics I know recommended.
The pump looked fine and the side where the differential is was ok too, none of the bearign seemed loose. I also think that the cable running from the throttle body to the transmission is stretched out.
So I think it is the belt and pulleys that might be the problem, so tomorrow morning, I am going to take the engine and transmission out one more time.
Wish me luck,
