Finally.
This took longer then i thought it would due to health issues, weather, money. Finally my 89 with 31K on it and a CVT is alive.
It took three carbs (one rebuilt, they left out parts !) one tired used one and a really good used one from a internet search to bring it alive.
The previous owner (I love Justies, I have lots of parts ... scarier words have been said) nevergot around to working on it, so I got it cheap, and it was a mess from sitting.
The last thing I could not fiogure out was the short cycling of the cooling fan. Oddly when I decided to rip out all the vac lines and replum them from scratch that issue went away.
Next issue to address is why on occasion the throttle sticks open (I think choke linkage is slightly bent), then off to DMV!
I may need new rotors since he sat for so long with the replacement rotors, A small price to pay.

Well it isnt a big deal when it sits in the driveway It seems to be a bent linkage. I need to find the two little vacume valves on the firewall by the drivers side of the car. I broke the top of one of them. IDle is a little odd yet, but I will worry about that once I have an exhaust system on the car that is tight. May need a valve adjustment, but thats a minor thing. Would like to find those valves though.

Justy has papers and tags is now legal. Put a few miles on him this afternoon. Unfortunitly the CHECK ECVT light came on, but the car was doing fine. Gratned the car has sat for years and years the brushes may not be happy. He shifted fine, i had him up to 40mph and all seemed ok. Rad cooling fan is still short cycling, but at least now that doesnt happen till he warms up. I will pull the tranny codes another day, but my next step is to get him to a exhaust shop to get the missing exhaust resolved. I have a temp inspection sticker and the clock is running on that one.

s183.photobucket.com/albums/x234/nipper-dawg/Justy/ First 20 pics the newest First driving impressions- 37 MPG city/highway driving with the CVT With the new exhaust the car idles quieter then my 97 outback Stops on a dime, handles like on rails Seats are comfortable. Wished it had AC. Need the plastic screw for the rear view mirror. No rattles fun to drive, wish i had the tape deck box, CVT oddness? When sitting in gear on flat ground (car doesn't creep) do I need to have my foot on the brake pedal or can I just sit there like a stick. 70 MPH trying to accelerate to pass up a hill on the Long Island Expressway, the Tach went up to 6500 RPM and stayed there, the car really didn't have much power left to pull. I can maintain a speed but not accelerate. on flat ground I have gotten him up to 80 so far. The CHECK ECVT light comes on from time to time, but then it either goes out on it's own or goes away on restart (no code to read at that point). I am thinking it is the brushes from sitting for 8 years.

sounds like brushes, have you given the trans an oil change? the oil does degrade over time, and certainly wouldn't hurt. 70 mph is about tops depending on the grade, even the manuals top out at about 80 mph on the flat, so i don't think yours is too bad. sounds like you have a good wee car there, well done

Yes first thing I did when I got it home was change all the fluids as they had returned to the primevil mud from which they came.
Good to know my conclusions are correct (yay).
I may have to actually connect the alarm as people keep stopping to look at him and circle around him.

Vacume valves on firewall. That silly plastic screw that holds up the rear view mirror The little square retainers that act as the stops on the glove box And the first tank of gas mixed driving is 36 mpg.

MY FRIEND!.. I'm sorry I left you hanging dude. I have that screw for the mirror, but those valves don't exist on any of my Justys. I'm not sure what to say :S WAs there a secondary location in the engine bay that they might've been installed?

Tis ok Josh. I am getting the valves from someone else on USMB, they are a fairly generic subaru pair. i can still use the screw. i put on an auto dimming mirror, but i still am keeping the original mirror for the car and still need the screw
